Not sure I agree with the stall . If it wasn't called when he kicked out you can't call it after Ryder shoots while he's already out

A real nice win by Spratley, 6 to 2. He got the takedown in the 1st period, got a reversal and then had more than 2 minutes of riding time. We had 4 guys who I think wrestled good, Robideau, Doucet, Facundo and Spratley. However, Spratley beat a good opponent, and I don't think the others had much of an opponent. We need to get better.

I think that Robideau has the best chance to win a title this year, but Spratley has a chance.
Other than Spratley and Doucet and Facundo we looked sluggish in every match. Even Roubideau did not look sharp in his tech fall victory over a backup. Ramirez was out-horsed. Swiderski ridden for two straight periods, Ryder and Merrill made very few moves toward a takedown and this against a team that lost Friday night to North Carolina 27-7. 33-3 score deceptive as they had 4 starters out of the lineup. Ryder has shown one move all season and this is an underhook to a swing single.I hate to sound this negative and the last two matches did get my juices flowing a little but right now we are far from a dominant team and a finish in the top five at Nationals is looking dimmer. I guess you can start calling me Harley.

No disrespect but I hate this excuse. Guys who struggle with conditioning now will struggle in March. I've never seen an exception. Sure maybe they will get in better shape but it's almost always a weakness.
I don't think the team looking slugish has anything to do with conditioning. More likely just the phase of training they are in.

You've never peaked for an athletic event?
Of course. But do you understand when you start lower your peak is often lower? There is only so much you can do between now and then. Why are we making excuses for guys gassing in the third period? It's only a few. Can you give me some examples of wrestlers who were struggling with conditioning in December and then had massive gas tanks in March? I can't. Usually see them go from bad to okay. Good go to great. We all know who will and won't be in great shape in the postseason tournaments.

Johnny Thompson, Jake Rosholt, Johny Hendricks. Coleman Scott was much better in March than December.

LOL, these guys were all monsters. But you are absolutely right on Rosholt. That is the very best example. But IMHO these are the rare exceptions. We shall see.

100%, enjoy your take for like a decade. You are not a rookie!

But, I’m not concerned about some of the “gas tank” issues, some I see eye to eye.

I know they are in a very, very well planned system that puts the tank on empty the day OF a dual in some cases. I have total confidence that March will look different. It did last year.

Tagen, Cam and Fish seemed to cause some concern all the way to Feb. We were worried about Wyatt due to his lack of gas tank proof due to decking people.

It was a good March, we were concerned. John was a goat and was successful based on testicular fortitude. This staff is super calculating and meticulous with the plans they develop for these guys.

Wrestling is the new sweet science!

I agree with you on this for the most part.

There is a difference from guys wrelsting sluggish at different times during a season as a staff is working on stuff than a guy who just struggles with conditioning.

I think we only have 1 or 2 who appear to have some somewhat consistent gas tank issues and I agree that those don’t really go away in a season.

Guys being sluggish comes and goes, sometimes multiple times in a season. That’s what I saw mostly today.

So something that you are spot on about is how we really stepped up in the NCAA tournament. I thought we over-performed for the first time in a long time so what this staff is doing is absolutely working. I will shut up about it. I will positively praise the guys who already look like they're in great shape - Robideau and Spratley stand out. Doucet looks really good as well.

Also I need to stop always assuming gassing out means being in terrible shape means being lazy. Some people just have a higher cardiovascular capacity.

I don't mean to be so negative about it. I just think "dang if they're already this good - how much better could they be if they were in elite shape?"

Hopefully my sarcasm meter is working?

Some dudes got the tank. I’ve never seen Troy look wasted, regardless of the workout or situation. Robi, same…he doesn’t lose because he is out of fuel. Yes, some people have a health makeup to avoid some of what you described previously.

Facundo and Ryder both, have improved here already.

We also see some the look similar.

I’m confident you don’t see gassing as an issue in March. I was mostly pleased today.

Remember last year? This team had a stretch where they looked extremely sluggish. We were all hand wringing. Penn State fans all said, relax we go through the same thing ... and they were right. It was part of the process.

To me most of the sluggishness doesn't look gas tank related. I don't feel like our guys are gassing out.

I didn't think anyone looked "sluggish". I do think there was a little bit of rust for some being off for 3 weeks. Most of the WV wrestlers we saw looked strong physically and for some of our younger guys who haven't physically matured just yet its going to show. I saw that with Ramirez and Vega for sure. No question these guys are in shape and the younger FR have been wrestling all year round with FS in the summer, so they can go 7 min in a dual.

Not much to add except stall calls are so dang inconsistent. Since they added the OOB stall calls its like the refs have no consensus on how to call any stalls. The call against Ryder's opponent was nonsense, the call against Spratley was nonsense, Swid should have gotten more stall calls against him, the list goes on.

I do hope Ryder figures out some more offense, he's so strong and athletic but isn't creating those opportunities well.

KD looked like a stud, gotta give props there.
