#55 is their best o-lineman, I've said as much myself. You're right that size doesnt say anything of talent or performance, but having said that acting like size isnt a factor at all is very naive.

You take a kid like #71 for example who is 6'5" 290 lbs and can move and has talent, it matters. If size in the trenches didn't matter college coaches wouldn't put such a premium on it in recruiting.
You also said Corvian started moving the ball when 55 was out of the game. I'm not sure that kid missed consecutive plays and was in the game until the end. Corvian moved the ball consistently.

Starmount has been undersized against many offensive lines this year. What I've seen from them so far, size has no impact.

Murphy is averaging over 500yds rushing in the playoffs so something has to give here lol.

Also, don’t think Murphy’s run defense is getting too much attention. They are only allowing 50yds a game in the playoffs.. granted the previous two teams were pass heavy teams but still impressive nonetheless
Do you think Murphy will put up that many rushing yards on Starmount's D?

That's not what I said, I said Corvian had more success when he was out of the game on both sides of the ball and they did. And you're wrong on the second part, he was out a lot longer than a play, he went out late 3rd quarter and came back in early 4th quarter.

The one offensive series he was out Murphy couldn't get anything going on the ground and punted. The next defensive series he was out the most of that drive, including a 4th down play which was a QB run up the middle that they converted, I feel like had he been of the field he would've contained it and ended that drive.

Corvian moved the ball some against Murphy. What’s your point? They are a very talented bunch. Truth is, Murphy had their foot on Corvian’s throat in the first half and if not for a couple of untimely mistakes, would have had the game wrapped up by halftime. That would scare me to death if I was a Starmount fan. Corvian is no joke and is better than any team the rams have played so far.

I wonder if EW fans think MA or Corvian is better this year. It would be 100% speculation either way, just curious what they think since they played both. EW definitely feels like they were a couple untimely mistakes from beating Corvian. Sounds like all 3 teams are a few untimely mistakes from being pretty even, which is what you expect in the later rounds of the playoffs.

Maybe EW was a couple of mistakes away from beating Corvian, Murphy was a couple of mistakes from blowing them out. Not the same. Doesn’t mean anything come this Friday night, but Bulldog fans do have good reason to be confident.

Problem is neither one of those things happened. I'm just saying that there probably isn't as big of a strength of schedule difference as you think. Yeah, Heard County and A.C. Reynolds are good teams, but this isn't the SEC or Notre Dame. We don't give out awards for losing. Robbinsville is the only team after that with a pulse until you got to Corvian. NONE of this is a knock on Murphy. I think they are great, but lets not act like they ran through some kind of gauntlet.

I do give a slight advantage to Murphy in this game.

Playing at home + established identity of a run game
vs
4 hour road trip + offensive changes mid season

I think it's speculation at best to say that Murphy is better than Mt Airy was this year. I certainly don't see any truth to that when I watch the film. Clem is a good back but he's no Taeshon Martin. Not to mention the DL for Mt Airy with Joyce, Floyd and Clabo. If Murphy has guys better than them Starmount better cancel the bus trip lol

Anything can happen when it comes to 16 year old kids. One team might blow the other one completely out of the water. I just think these two are closer together than some might realize.

Like I've said Murphy is pretty banged up, one of their best players on both sides of the ball is in a walking boot this week. If they were 100% Id be a lot more confident, but they aren't. I still think they can win but it will be a lot tougher.

I hate when that happens to the kids. They've worked so hard all year to get to this point. Football is a tough physical game that's hard on the body. Hopefully he's able to play

Fair post. I do disagree on a couple of things though. One, Community School of Davidson was no pushover. Their passing game was top notch and they hung around until Murphy just overwhelmed them on the line of scrimmage and took over the game. A lot of people around the state even picked them to beat Murphy. CSOD dropped 65 on Swain in Bryson City in a 65-13 win a week earlier. Speaking of Swain, they were no pushover either. I know Swain (historical SMC powerhouse) wasn’t 100% in their games against Murphy (L 28-0) and CSOD (L 65-13) but still, they were a victory at home over Murphy away from winning a share of the SMC had they been able to pull it out.

Headed that way Friday morning. Scored on a good stay at Stonebrook Lodge for Friday. Have looked at the Mason Bar, Chevelles 66, and Mariolino’s for lunch or dinner before the game. Can our friends in Murphy make any recommendations?

No Murphy doesn't have an individual back on Martin's level but not many teams do, including Starmount. As a group/collective though Murphy has a very good rushing attack. Defensively Murphy's front 7 is very strong, when healthy there are no weak links in that group.

As far as who is better between Murphy - Mount Airy, Corvian - East Wilkes, etc. I really couldn't care less because all that's going to matter is which team (Murphy or Starmount) is better Friday night.

Martin is good, but what else does MA have? Clem isn’t the only good back Murphy has. The Dogs have a deep backfield with lots of talent.

As far as Murphy’s DL, they are plenty good. Your rams will more than have their hands full running the ball on this defense.

As for Murphy vs MA, you had better hope you are right about MA being better. I would put up good money that Murphy would be able to run the ball on MAs DL just fine this year.

We can agree that two good football teams and communities will clash on Friday.

We both have the same fight song and we both use the GATA slogan, but I remember the Murphy fans on here in the early 2000s using DEF…… lol!!
I don’t think that last thing is a thing anymore.

All true statements. The team comparison thing is just a fun way to try and figure out who should be favored.

I agree, Murphy has more than one option which as a collection makes it tough on an opposing defense. I don't doubt that the DL is very good.

As Deana said, Starmount don't have one player to stop. Looking forward to a great game.

Try Julie’s place near community college. Great home cooking food, breakfast on Saturday morning.

If you like steak, Legend’s Steakhouse is awesome if you can get in. Lunch would be a better time to go there. It’s usually very crowded in the evening. The Chop House is very good too, as is Shoe Booties cafe. Just do a quick google search of restaurants when you get here. Lots of great food options here and in the surrounding area. The casino has several good options as well, including Gordon Ramsey’s.

Size can certainly be figured out but has very little to do with how they perform on the field. RG #55 is the best lineman I've watched for Murphy so throw size out the window.
Have you seen some of the Murphy linemen over the years???? Been some beasts.

This could be a classic. Murphy will be favored as they should be. Most critics will tell you playing at home is a +3 advantage and that's before Starmount drives 4 hours. Murphy is big, tough, and physical! Sort of remind me of the old Tom Osbourne Nebraska teams (not that they run the same offense or defense). Weather may play a role as well especially if it gets sloppy. I am sure Murphy is praying for rain soaked game as most would think that would be to their advantage. It all comes down to turnovers, penalties, and playmakers. The team that negates the drive killing penalties and turnovers and has their playmakers make big plays will win the game. Some athletes live for these moments and some shy away under the brightest lights. Most of Starmount's playmakers have grown up this year. They have excepted the challenge, fought through adversity, and bounced back from the disappointing loss at West Wilkes. We will see Friday but there is something different about this Ram bunch! The critics don't give the Rams a chance!! Poor little ole Starmount........ Give me the Rams by 1 on the road against the best team (arguably) they've played this year, in the toughest environment they have played in this year!!!
