That’s correct, Bobert, The West Bank of the creek is where the WL district began.
After Lincolnton Middle School was built, on up Startown Rd., and on the west side of the creek, they had to cede a little of it to Lincolnton. By the looks of the map, parts of the WL district still comes to the creek that’s behind our visitors’ stand’s.
The Lincolnton school district is a very narrow strip on both sides of old U. S. 321 business.
The North Lincoln School District, is adjacent to the east side of Lincolnton's City limits and goes east to Lake Norman encompassing nearly all the northeastern 1/4 of Lincoln County….Not far southeast of the city limits the East Lincoln District begins. It encompasses approximately the entire southeastern 1/4 of Lincoln County and runs all the way to Lake Norman and Mecklenburg County.
This is my opinion, only, but I don't believe Lincolnton has many friends among pertinent boards whose names have county in it. We're kind of like Hickory in relation to the rest of Catawba County, or Cherryville to Gaston County. Euphemistically speaking, to them, were the pariah.
I've mentioned this on here, before, but I worked for a boss who was originally from another part of the county. Told him once that while talking to his neighbor, she said that a lot of people in the area he lived in were fiercely independent, and did not like or trust Washington or Raleigh. He said "You've left one out, Lincolnton." I explained to him she had said that, too, but I deliberately left it out. Have to say though, this guy was a great boss... Wonder if the powers that be would adopt us out to another county if that was legally possible.
