Polk county can spring upsets, especially at home. That will be an interesting game. If NC rolls they might be a real threat.

Reynolds will be a tough game for Maiden despite their poor week 1 showing. I expect a close battle

East Lincoln to host Providence: The Panthers go back to the south side of Charlotte, sad. Mustangs by 21

East Burke at Foard: The Cavaliers by 6

Alexander Central at Hickory: The Tornadoes take out last weeks 2 point loss to South Point by downing the Cougars by 2, to the fifth power that is 2⁵... Tornadoes by 32.

AC Reynolds at Maiden: Flyrod's game of the week, hmmm. AC for the second week is consorting with the devil, and lost big, last week, to a bunch of Blue Devils from Brevard. Reynolds is a team that's at least almost, always tough. The way I see it there must be a few dozen variables in this one, so I'll take my cue from Scarlett O'Hara who said "I can't think about that now, if I do I'll go crazy"...Going with another Rockets loss to the Blue Devils... Maiden by 10.

Newton Conover at Polk County: Normally, I'd say Polk County, but a blue bird bird (emphasis on blue) told me that Newton-Conover has acquired some help, this season, so, think I'll go with the Red Devils. NC over the Wolverines by 8.

West Iredell at North Iredell: West might be pretty good, this year. The Warriors by 18.

Lincolnton at North Lincoln: Looks like Flyrod, "The Compleat Angler" {Compleat) is not misspelled, it's just old) has declared a second game of the week, and we're involved in it, again: This is two consecutive years the Wolves will travel the short distance to North Lincoln. Last year, as far as points go, the game was over by halftime, with them defeating us 41-20. Hoping so badly that will not be the case this year. North graduated a bunch of seniors, but being the largest school in Lincoln County, they'll be replaced. Some think the Knights will be down from this past season, but I have doubts., Last Friday at West Lincoln, the score was tied 14 all at the half, but North came storming back with four unanswered scores. Just wondered if they wore West down. anyways, I'm sticking with the Wolves to pull this one out. Lincolnton by 6.

*Side Note: Friends, with your tolerance, I'd like to comment on Lincolnton fans going down to North Lincoln. I went there to a scrimmage, a couple years ago. Several teams were there, so I went in at the North Lincoln (Home) gate, and what a festive, uplifting atmosphere it was. The Chick-Fil-A cow (I guess that's what it is, or maybe it's a giraffe) was even there, and some people I knew wanted to make my picture standing beside of it. In spite of the really hot weather, it was a lot of fun. That was at the North Lincoln gate. Every time I've gone through the Nort Lincoln gate, it was the same way, and I've entered there several times over the years.

Now, the last time going there was to a JV game, I went in the visitors entrance. A couple of men at the gate didn't say anything out of the way but how noticeable were the surly glares. Reminded me of an old Ray Charles song "In the heat of the night. "In the heat of the night, seems like a cold sweat creeping cross my brow-In the heat of the night I'm feeling motherless somehow-Stars in the sky with evil eyes stare down all mean and bright, in the heat of the night."
Damnit, try being a little cordial. You'll make money and we will not be a problem to you. In the Bible, Paul tells the Church of Rome to be welcoming of visitors, so be welcoming to the kindly Lincolnton sorts, why don't you.

Pretty good week 1 for the WFAC 4A/5A Conference going 8-1 Overall. This Conference will be tough week in and out. The Northwestern 6A/7A went 4-2 Overall. The Western Piedmont struggled going 1-7 with Hibriten scoring a 24-21 win over East Wilkes. On a side Note we were 2-0 against that league with West Iredell beating East Burke, and Bunker beating Draughn. The North Piedmont 6A/7A went 2-4. Congrats to Lake Norman and Statesville on the wins.


Western Foothills 4-A/5-A this week:

0-1 against I think it's the the Big South 5A/6-A with Hickory losing to South Point in a heartbreaker.

1-0 against the North Piedmont 6-A/7-A Conference with East Lincoln putting up 60 on South Iredell.

2-0 against I hope I am naming this league correctly the Southern Piedmont 2-A/3-A/4-A league with Maiden beating Lincolnton 29-26, and North Lincoln beating West Lincoln 41-14.

1-0 against Catawba River 1A/2A/3A Conference with Foard winning over Mountain Island Charter Prep 14-0

2-0 against Northwestern 6-A/7-A Conference with Bandys beating Saint 38-19, and Newton Conover winning over AC 42-21

2-0 against Western Piedmont with Bunker Hill beating Draughn and West Iredell winning over East Burke.

8-1 Overall.

East Lincoln put most points at 60.

North Lincoln, Bunker Hill, and Newton-Conover with 40 + points.

2 shutouts Fred T. Foard 14-0 Over MIC, and West Iredell 26-0 over East Burke.

Shout out to Newton Conover and Jeremiah Pope with 138 rushing yards unofficially or officially I know he had a big game.

Wackiest things to happen this week: Obviously the lights at Lincolnton. Over at the Hill the app froze and the lights blinked for about 2 minutes but was fixed quickly by a assistant coach or so I heard. Interesting week 1.

I can tell you Nick has had very little interaction with the team. It was in question even ten days before Friday night whether he would be in the press box. He didn't want to be a distraction from what Matt has done and what he is building. N-C still has a lot to prove and a very difficult schedule with which to do it. Matt has had to implement a serious culture change. The kids seem to be buying in. Now the parents and community need to buy in. Winning certainly helps.

Matt Wilson had down a fantastic job thus far. Results will come but it takes time esp with all he has had to do with the mentality, cleaning up a lot stuff on inside of the program n rebuilding that relationship with the Twin cities. He one of my favorites and he do a lot things the right way and He a guy you want your kids to be coach by bc He Truly Care about them more so off the field

EL over Providence-Charlotte or no Charlotte team, EL seems to have it
Foard over EB-if what i saw last week comes to play its a wrap by 2 scores
Hickory over ACentral- good games in the past but not last or this year
Reynolds over Maiden-Best one in area in my book. Reynolds by 1 score
Polk over Newton- on a limb on this one. Close to call
Lincolnton over NL-based off NL senior loss/ Lincolton last week, whew.
West Iredell over NI- no brainer. WI with something to prove this year.

Notes of interest: East Burke can turn things around this week, dont count them out til or if they lose this one by a few scores. Wingates first run against a high division program, if the Maiden front can get him running lanes it should be a really interesting game. West Iredell getting off or soon to be off to a 2-0 will make some momentum for a struggling program going forward this year. Big one- North Lincoln...can they prove they can overcome a massive senior loss and a Wingate transfer and show last week was not a pushover whatever kinda game for them? Guess we'll see.

I’m taking Lincolnton…the Lynch brothers are a cheat code…so small and tough as nails…fast as a lazer light too. How many tackles did Mayfield have against Maiden? Good lord!…he was all over the field. I know! I know!…North Lincoln ain’t no joke…but I got to go with the Wolves.

I’m taking Providence in a shoot out over the Mustangs. If East Lincoln proves me wrong…we’re all in trouble.

I’ll take Foard…if y’all recall this team goose egged Maiden JV’s 8-0 2 years ago. I ain’t forgot it…they had a couple stud RB’s then too that would bring it. I haven’t seen Foard…but I’m going with them to beat East Burke.
