I don't think I have much to say about this game, other than Westfield did just a bit more on the offensive side of the ball and managed to come away with the win. Both defenses managed to keep their opponent's offense under control, except for a just a few big plays that led to the scores.
TCW opened the game with a 3 and out, followed by Westfield being stopped on 4th and 5 at the TCW 33 yard line. The two teams then punted on each of their next 3 possessions, but on WF's third punt in this series TCW was hit with a roughing the kicker penalty, giving WF a new set of downs at the WF 47 yard line. WF took advantage of the opportunity, converting a 4th and 5 at the TCW 38 yard line along the way, and scored on a 21 yard Johnson to Petrillo catch and run to put WF up 7-0 with just 1:26 remaining in the first half. The two teams went to the locker rooms with that score.
TCW opened the second half with another 3 and out, with WF fair catching the punt just before the WF 45 yard line. The next play was something you rarely see in football: Westfield decided to attempt a free kick for points, with Delaney taking the kick from just inside the WF 45 yard line using a standard kickoff formation. His kick was close to the uprights, but landed just short and a little to the right. Had it been good, it would have been a 64 yard FG, but the score remained 7-0. WF went on to score on their next possession when Johnson hit a wide open Eckert streaking down the sideline for a 52 yard passing TD and WF went ahead 14-0 with 9:27 remaining in the 3rd quarter. After another TCW punt, WF extended the lead to 21-0 when Johnson hit Cirillo with a 23 yard pass at the 4:21 mark of the third quarter. At this point, the TCW offense started to show some life (for most of the game, despite some very tough running by TCW's Hillian, they had not been able to sustain a drive or score). Starting on their own 3 yard line, TCW moved to near midfield but stalled and had to punt. WF's Hinton fumbled the punt, with TCW recovering the ball on the WF 8 yard line. Several plays later Hillian took it in from 6 yards out and cut the score to 21-7, WF, just 2 seconds before the end of the 3rd quarter. WF's first possession of the 4th quarter ended with a missed 37 yard FG, then TCW started their ensuing possession on their own 20 yard line. Getting a 7 yard pass on 4th and 6 at the WF 37, they continued to march down the field until Robertson scored on a 3 yard run with 2:18 to play, cutting the deficit to 21-14, WF. TCW attempted an onside kick, but WF recovered on their own 40 yard line and after barely making a first down on 3rd and 8 was able to run out the clock for the win.
