Have heard they are pissed and have given the I-8 the finger and this will be their last year in the conference. so final year of current I-8 will have two 5 team divisions

Metro? Or closure and dispersal, would be the ultimate goo-goo test case of consolidated government.

The I-8 is dead. Wilmington and Coal City's school boards have already voted to leave...Manteno, Peotone, Herscher, RC, & Lisle have already informed the conference they are leaving as well...Streator according to hearsay has also committed to leaving...several of the Kankakee area schools are on the IHSA website looking for games in the middle of 2018...

Since Steve Soucie left, prep football coverage in the Kankakee Daily Journal has sucked...They have yet to mention Seneca's departure, Morris being shot down as a new member, and the subsequent collapse of the conference....

Westmont was the problem, particularly in football. They refused to play Wilmington below the varsity level, screwing up a Wildcats homecoming (2013 I think). 2014, they moved both the freshman & soph games (at Westmont) against Wilmo to Monday, and then cancelled on Monday afternoon (my stepson was on those soph teams). I took my stepson & a bunch of his friends to scout Manteno-Peotone instead in 2014 - and my Manteno friends were surprised to find Westmont screwed the Cats over like that...Apparently they started doing this to multiple schools...

And then with Seneca's departure, reportedly new interested members included Kankakee & Morris...with 7 3A basketball schools in the conference (Sandwich, Plano, Streator, Manteno, Coal City, Herscher, Peotone), the bigger schools I presume were okay with Morris. I assume R/C & Westmont shot Morris down. Therefore, since Westmont is the problem, the rest of the conference leaves them homeless...

You "Presumed Wrong". Big schools not interested in Morris at all. Only 2 schools voted FOR Morris addition.

Which was a big mistake IMO.

Gotta play them in the playoffs in every sport, might as well get used to it.

So what is the final decision for the i-8.....Last I heard going back to 8 teams with Seneca, Westmont, Plano, and Sandwich out. I like the old i-8 before the large and small split, and if they go back to the old format with new teams it has potential to be a brutal football conference. With Wilmington, Manteno, Coal City and Herscher being tough every year and now that Peotone is proving to be a contender the conference is looking good. Lisle has their years as well.

I didn't like the large small split because there are years that a quality opponent could be avoided and a true i-8 champion is not known.....for example, I think last years Wilmington and Herscher matchup would have been a great game. Or the few random times when Wilmington and Coal City didn't play each other......that's just not right!

This coming season will be 2 5 team conferences for the last season of the official I-8 conference. After that the 8 teams you have talked about Wilmington, Coal City, Peotone, Manteno, Herscher, Lisle, Streator, and Reed-Custer will form a new conference to be named later. Weeks 1 and 2 will be open and weeks 3-9 will be conference play. Should be a pretty tough conference overall.

I'm glad its going back to that format. I like the Non-con games returning too. It was always nice to see new opponents and then you can try to get tougher competition too. I would love to see a Morris-Wilmington matchup.
