Westmoreland High School moved up to Class 2 this season. I have a couple of questions:

1. What region are they in and who else is in that region?
2. Since they are a class 2 team in a district with all class 1 teams, do they get extra point(s) for each district game and the two OOD games against class 1 teams?

They are 0-3 and have had a tough time; but they've played class 3 James Monroe, Class 2 KIng William, and Class 1 Rappahannock (in a non-district game). They play Class 4 Handley this week who is one of the picks to win their region before an OOD game with Class 1 West Point and then all NND games. It's looking like 4-6 is the best they will do without an upset. I don't know if that's good enough to make the playoffs in their new region Thanks! Have a good one!

Thanks! This shows Westmoreland is still Class 1. I guess they appealed the initial move the class 2 and won. I looked at the enrollment numbers and Westmoreland is listed at 480 which is higher than a couple of the class 2 schools but quite a bit lower than the class 2 schools in the south eastern and middle peninsula part of the state. They are by far the largest of the NND schools - Essex is second at 414, Lancaster & Rappahannock have 400, Northumberland have 385 and Colonial Beach has 224.

@DinwiddieProud @m-squared2 Westmoreland is 2A in Region A. That list hasn’t been updated. If you look at Riverheads on that list, they still have them listed as a 2A school. We all know they are back down to 1A again. I don’t believe Westmoreland get extra points for playing 1A schools. Thats maybe why they’ve beefed up the non district part of their schedule a little more this season.

Thanks! That's the thing about the internet - if a page doesn't include the date it was last updated (some do and some don't) you have no way of knowing if it's up-to-date. I'm thinking when the VHSL was calculating the points, you earned extra rider point(s) for playing schools of lower classifications (they used to call that playing down - never liked that term). I think that was because districts aren't all schools in the same class and they didn't want schools "penalized" for playing district games (that in most districts they have to play) against smaller classification schools. VHSL doesn't do the points now so that could have changed. Have a good one!

And quite honestly, the VHSL has really slipped when it comes to attention to details.

Who is picking Handley to win the region? With the schedule they put together I am surprised they didnt include one of the little league teams from the area

My guess is Handley loses at least 1 if not 2 games to county rival schools.

Win the region BAHAHAHA
