I actually think Stans would do very well at UK, and he wouldn't be bad hire for them. The thing is because they are UK, they have to hire a high profile guy that will be a homerun as far as the fanbase goes. I don't think Stansbury would go over well with the fanbase. I was discussing this very topic with SouthPanolaDawg the other day and this is the illustration I used - Its like the Lakers hiring a new coach when Phil Jackson retires. You have to replace him with a big name because HC for the Lakers is an extremely high profile job. Someone like Stan Van Gundy, who is a good coach and would likely do a good job, would be a terrible hire just because he's not up to the standards that Laker fans have based on past coaches. When you have a history that has hall of famers such as Jackson, Riley, and Rudy T (though a short stint) you have to hire someone in that same league. Its the same with UK, they got Rupp and Pitino, and they have to hire someone along those same lines. As good as I think Stans is, no one will ever mention his name among those two guys.

How can this be?? Wetzel must not read this board.

It's funny how an outsider can see what a tremendous job Stans has done here, but many of our own fans cannot.
