We've had basically a zero sum week RPI wise.

Prior to the Bama game we were 53rd in Realtime RPI. Beating Bama took us to 36, but four days of inactivity took us back down to 45. With the loss to the Bears, we are now stationed at.....52. The Bears meanwhile, jumped from the upper 50s to 42 with last night's thumping. This weekend provides a shot for some redemption, as Vandy is currently 33rd. Should they beat Bama (#20) tonight, they will move up. I guess in the crazy world of RPI we want Bama to win because we play them twice.

And yet we are 10 spots ahead of an MSU team that has a much better resume.

I just don't get it. Our strength of schedule is 38, and it appears what our OOC was composed of was a bunch of teams that are not top 25 teams, but teams ranked between 26 and 100.

None of this matters for us though because we will be on the bubble for the NIT.

was that we had dropped from 35th right after Bama win to 45th before we even took the court in Oxford. So we fell 10 spots w/o playing and 7 more for losing. I understand movement due to what happens in other games, but to slide 10 spots w/o playing a game seems really odd. I've sure as heck never seen us go up like that while not playing. </p>

The formula is ********.It's a terrible way to try to rank teams.

I think you get a lot more credit than us because you played 4 true road games non-conference, while we only played 1 true road game and 3 neutral games (even though Baylor in Dallas should be at least a semi-road game). Also, we played 6 teams ranked #200 or below to your 2, so that hurts us.Apparently, those more than offset the factthat we have 2 top-20 RPI wins and you don't have any top-50 wins and you havea loss outside the top 100 while we don't.

Take Long Beach State for example. Their out of conference schedule was the toughest in the country. They went 5-6 in those games and had an RPI in the top 20. Since they began conference play they have not lost. With their win tonight they are 6-0 in the Big West. But their RPI has fallen from top 20 all the way into the lower 50s thanks to the strength of schedule hit they take for playing in the Big West. So posting a losing record against good competition means more than going undefeated against weaker competition in the RPI formula.

Vandy is up to 21 after manhandling Bama (26th) in Ttown the other night. We've fallen to 54th. Huge opportunity tonight to right the ship.

Still too early for things to sort themselves out. Don't pay it any attention until mid-February at the earliest.
