The presidential reference to the "innocent people" victimized by the Nazis without a mention of Jews or anti-Semitism by the White House on International Holocaust Remembrance Day was a stark contrast to statements by former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Trump is from New York, worked in professions saturated with Jews and long has been a vocal supporter of Israel. His daughter,son-in-law and three grandchildren are Jewish, the executive vice president of his organization is Jewish — and Trump certainly has chutzpah.
He has served as a grand marshal at New York’s annual Salute to Israel Parade. After Hurricane Katrina, he was among a group of celebrities who decorated Jewish federation tzedakah boxes to be auctioned off to support hurricane disaster relief. And in February, he was honored with an award at the annual gala for the Algemeiner, a Jewish news organization.

First of all, this administration is hyper sensitive to messages they are sending their base. So connect the dots...Strategist Bannon has significant ties to the Anti-Semitic Breitbart and the alt-right. The alt-right is really where Trump first gained momentum in his run for President. He has been and remains loyal to them. Trump has been cozying up with Israel. Bannon wants to balance the message and suggests a Holocaust statement with no mention to the Jews. We got what we got. Dave, globally the denial of the Holcaust is a big deal. The far right in many European countries deny it completely or deny Jews were killed in massive numbers. We can't deny Bannons involvement in an alt-right publication. I don't think it is a coincidence that there no mention of the Jews. Bannon throwing a bone to the far right.

The thing is....it's not crazy talk. It was done intentionally by the WH to establish a negative media narrative about Trump being racist towards Jewish people (which he can easily deny, giving that his son in law and advisor Jewish).

It enhances the "war against the media" message, and gives Trump more justification in potentially destroying the free press in favor of a more controlled media that plays to his base and phases out the voice of the left (something most on here would already welcome).

It also lessens the impact of the travel ban directive. An unbelievably unAmerican act in complete defiance of our most cherished national identity, is now downplayed by the right because the left associates it with the alt right racism.
