So you were my competition in 1989...I'm hoping WI was a low point for a few guys and they rebound in a big way this week. I was also hoping Kathy Ireland would have choose to be my girlfriend in the mid 80s...but that didn't happen either.

You think it's more likely Mikey beats Mess than either Drake beating a freshman or Bailey beating a beefed up 125er? Interesting take.184, 285, 125, 165 can all win in that order of likelihood. 133, 141, and 157 just aren't wrestling near well enough currently imo to win, but they have a punchers chance. I think Block can keep it close if his tank is back. If Iowa comes out flat they will get run out of Carver.
Big crush back then.I'm hoping WI was a low point for a few guys and they rebound in a big way this week. I was also hoping Kathy Ireland would have choose to be my girlfriend in the mid 80s...but that didn't happen either.
Had to be one helluva list!!!So you were my competition in 1989...
I do based on how Cali has looked and how Drake and Bailey have looked. I wouldn't pick Cali as a favorite, but he looks exponentially better than Bailey and Drake so far this year. I think PSU and Iowa's best wrestlers are both 165lbers. I also think both team's weakest weight currently is 141.You think it's more likely Mikey beats Mess than either Drake beating a freshman or Bailey beating a beefed up 125er? Interesting take.
I'm not saying Drake or Bailey will win but if I had to bet my house on one of them no chance I'm betting on beating Messenbrink.
I didn’t feel like sifting through the data myself. So I asked Grok. After watching PSU break our consecutive dual meet record against Rutgers in true dominance, I'm going out on a limb and say this will be our worst defeat in 50 years.
I'm not betting against Angelo, and Mirasola is too small for Keuter. The rest are losses, with some majors against us.
WTH happened in this dual during the height of the Gable era???I didn’t feel like sifting through the data myself. So I asked Grok.
As for the biggest margin of defeat in the last 50 years (since 1976), it’s 23 points. This occurred on February 9, 2024, when No. 1 Penn State defeated No. 3 Iowa 29-6 in Iowa City. This is noted as the largest margin in Iowa’s 10-weight-class dual history since the 1969-70 season. Other notable large-margin losses include 27-12 to Cal Poly in 1980 (15 points) and 30-8 to Penn State in 2025 (22 points), but none exceed 23 in the specified timeframe.
The two largest margins of loss in the past 50 years according to Grok are the last 2 years vs Penn State.
Grok was so close. The Cal-Poly lose was in the 79-80 season, but it happened in 1979 (12/5).I didn’t feel like sifting through the data myself. So I asked Grok.

Forty Years Ago: Cal Poly Upsets No. 1-Ranked Iowa, 27-12 - Cal PolyWTH happened in this dual during the height of the Gable era???
Did our top 20 guys have the flu or did we simply "overtrain" or did we go to the Soldier Salute 5 days before Cal Poly?
By my math that is 28-6. Can't argue much with the score or the W/L. Until Drake starts to show more I cannot pick him...but he's had so much experience in big matches vs next to none at this level for Blaze. Big time candidate for a CHA moment, if Drake decides to show up! This match is a definite toss up and huge match for post-season seedings.125 - Lilledahl DEC Peterson
133 - Blaze DEC Ayala
141 - Davis MAJOR Bailey
149 - Van Ness DEC Block
157 - Duke MAJOR Williams
165 - Mesenbrink MAJOR Caliendo
174 - Haines MAJOR Kennedy
184 - Ferrari SV DEC Welch
197 - Barr DEC Endene
285 - Kueter DEC Mirasola
She was smokin hotSo you were my competition in 1989...
Next to none at this level for Blaze. U17 and U20 Gold medalist and Bronze medalist at the u s Olympic team trials. I would say that is plenty of experience. That said if DA can get back to last year’s DA it could be a close match.By my math that is 28-6. Can't argue much with the score or the W/L. I see a major from SVN and Barr. They are both far and away the best guys at their weight.
Did you ask her? She may have been too shy or insecure to make the first move. I say you blew it buddy!!I'm hoping WI was a low point for a few guys and they rebound in a big way this week. I was also hoping Kathy Ireland would have choose to be my girlfriend in the mid 80s...but that didn't happen either.
You can use the present tense too. She looks damn good at 62.She was smokin hot
BK is 100% a favorite over MirasolaThe only shot is at 125(Luke is banged up) and Peterson has beaten him before and Angelo. If the over under is 1.5 I might take the under. On a side note I want the Hawks to win 10 out of 10!
Yeah, I know all that but... better wrestlers than Blaze have chit the bed their first time in front of a CHA crowd!Next to none at this level for Blaze. U17 and U20 Gold medalist and Bronze medalist at the u s Olympic team trials. I would say that is plenty of experience. That said if DA can get back to last year’s DA it could be a close match.
That was back when CHA made a difference....nothing intimidating about Iowa or it's arena nowYeah, I know all that but... better wrestlers than Blaze have chit the bed their first time in front of a CHA crowd!

No, not since PSU invented college wrestlingThat was back when CHA made a difference....nothing intimidating about Iowa or it's arena now
Yeah, Blaze has more experience in huge matches at even higher levels of wrestling than NCAA duals. I don’t think nerves are going to be an issue for him.Next to none at this level for Blaze. U17 and U20 Gold medalist and Bronze medalist at the u s Olympic team trials. I would say that is plenty of experience. That said if DA can get back to last year’s DA it could be a close match.
No chance! Angelo won’t lose. As for the other 9, as much as I really like our guys they are simply out matched. I’ll take PK for the upset in CHA so I’m saying 8-2.Iowa gets blanked, unfortunately
I hope you’re right brother but many of our guys just aren’t looking good…yet.I got us winning 125,149,165,184,197 and heavy, shocking the world and all the MORANS
I think it’ll be close if we see the best Block.I expect Block to get manhandled by SVN. He rag-dolled Parco last year and Parco was a 4X AA. I predict fireworks from SVN Friday night.
And he's wrestling against the likely Hodge who hasn't lost in almost what 2 years?I do based on how Cali has looked and how Drake and Bailey have looked. I wouldn't pick Cali as a favorite, but he looks exponentially better than Bailey and Drake so far this year. I think PSU and Iowa's best wrestlers are both 165lbers. Keuter will lose to continue the trend of this season being a massive waste/disappointment/failure/end of the Brands era. After watching PSU break our consecutive dual meet record against Rutgers in true dominance, I'm going out on a limb and say this will be our worst defeat in 50 years.
I'm not betting against Angelo, and Mirasola is too small for Keuter. The rest are losses, with some majors against us.
I thought Peterson,Cali,Kennedy,Ferrari and Big Ben looked good. I will bleed with our troops if necessary!I hope you’re right brother but many of our guys just aren’t looking good…yet.
I like ya Grip and suspect you’re a ride or die Brands guy all the way but here lies part of the problem; when Ben takes one shot the entire match and its in SV and then hears he looks good that becomes a mindset. He won, he didn’t look good; I don’t care if he wrestling an unranked pud or top 10 guy, he should be able to create enough angles with his speed to at least fire a few shots off.I thought Peterson,Cali,Kennedy,Ferrari and Big Ben looked good. I will bleed with our troops if necessary!
And very wealthy. She could be Iowa Wrestling's NIL Sugar MamaYou can use the present tense too. She looks damn good at 62.
The Carver effect is very real, but I don't know if I have seen a wrestler better than Blaze at his age? These kids today are something else imo. Angelo, Jax,Duke,Bo,Melvin,Jayden......the list grows longer. I have no idea how or why it is happening. It will be interesting to see if Blaze or Duke get Carvered. It could certainly happen. Mark Hall was Carvered but Meyer was such a huge gas tank guy it made the perfect situation. The next time in Carver he just lost to an excellent wrestler that was his equal. When Ramos beat JO I felt the same way- Tony's huge gas tank and pace made all of the difference. Duke won't face that but Blaze could if no brakes Drake emerges from his hibernation.Yeah, I know all that but... better wrestlers than Blaze have chit the bed their first time in front of a CHA crowd!

Drake has been wearing his brakes on his knees. SMH, get off your knees and wrestle. The Carver effect is very real, but I don't know if I have seen a wrestler better than Blaze at his age? The lions will have 2 TFs and two pins in the dual. At least 3 Md tooJust thscore points - T. Brands
