[QUOTE="The Bell Tolls for Thee, post: 131948928, member: 1812660"] You are aware that prior to COVID thousands of West Virginians died of complications from flu, bacterial pneumonia, and other cold causing viruses EVERY year right? Most of them were elderly or with significant pre-existing medical conditions just like the majority of those that succumbed to COVID. COVID is not nothing, but a vast majority of cases cause flu like symptoms that are not fatal or disabling. The rate of rare cases of mortality and morbidity from COVID are only slightly higher than flu. COVID is far more infectious than the flu which will result in higher absolute numbers even if rates are similar. But the rate of death or permanent disability from a COVID infection is LESS than the routine use of a car for the average person. Vaccines are readily available to anyone who wants them. With them COVID and it's current variant is no more deadly/disabling than your typical cold and flu season viruses. K95 masks are readily available and provide the same protection regardless of whether those around you are masked or not. K95 masks are what healthcare workers wore for protection against the much more serious disease of tuberculosis for years AND the infected patients were not wearing masks when being treated. Sure there are those that are more vulnerable to communicable disease such as those receiving chemotherapy or cannot receive vaccines for example. However those cases have been around for years as well and the responsibility was always on the minority of vulnerable citizens to judge their own risk tolerance and act accordingly. It is sheer hubris to think that everyone else should deviate from normal behavior, especially in a manner that has been proven to not actually do anything like wearing cloth or paper surgical masks while being in close contact for prolonged periods of time, just to make you feel more secure at a non essential entertainment event.
