I'd like to thank all the posters for their kind words after the game. I really appreciate it!
What a year! I have to say this was definitely one of the most satisfying years I've had at MS.
To start I think people at MS thought we had the potential to have a really good year if the right pieces fell into place. We started off great against Montini and LA. Both games gave the team a tremendous amount of confidence. Barrington exploited some of our weaknesses and helped the team realize that just showing up will not be good enough to win. New Trier oh New Trier! While I hate losing to this team (and this was my first loss to them) it helped refocus the team. So I guess I have to say Thank You to the Trevians for beating us. Thanks for celebrating(with a little taunting thrown in) and lighting the fire that remained until Thanksgiving weekend. The playoff draw was the hardest I could remember. West Aurora was a great team! Loaded with speed and the boys believe that DaQuon Cross was the best player they played all year. It was nice to get a chance at redemption against Barrington. This time more focused. Also nice to get a chance against LWE after they broke our hearts in 2OT back in 2005. Palatine was who we thought they were. Strong defense but definitely not the same offense without Oles. We can debate which team would have won all day long but in the end I still take the Hawks. Then comes LA! I was definitely worried but more confident a second time around. They are a great team and beating them would take a strong defense. Well the defense showed up and took care of business! I was surprised at the LA game plan and would be curious what the LA faithful thought about it.
This senior class will go down as one of the grittiest in MS history. So I guess this years motto "True Grit" is very fitting. People at the beginning of the year thought that there should have been a QB controversy. I think the amazing year Nick Leongas had has changed their minds. It just proved how a smart, athletic and natural born leader can take this MS offense to amazing places. Well done!
Sean McNulty with his "McGregor" swag had a great year at OL,DL,P and K. I'm happy he begged Coach Inserra to allow him to play more. And the title game showed just how talented he is. What can you say about Kevin Jarvis that hasn't been said? He is big, nasty and should help the Spartans in years to come. How about MLB Mike Pusateri? All 5'8 or 5'9 of him. Over 140 tackles and so many huge stops. Just goes to show that it is not the size of the dog in the fight...
So many great stories inside this team I could go on and on! They played together as one because of their love for each other and because the coaches did an amazing job! Congrats boys! 2016 8A State Champions!!!
