What about Butch?

I think it’s clear (barring a miracle) Lemon will be gone at the end of the season. What about Butch as a replacement? I like his fire. I have no idea if he’d come. What are his cons? 2024 was a terrible season, was that an anomaly, or is he just up and down record wise?

Fire? Butch is like the most calm guy ever. He's a better fit for Auburn. He was good here because he had Cohen being the ******* we needed.

We do need someone who will recruit the hell out of the state of Alabama.

I have no idea if he is interested or would take it, but if we are in the market for a coach, Butch should be on the short list.

Auburn has been a basketball school since 2018. Butch has taken them to Omaha as many times as Bruce has taken them to the Final Four in that span.

Butch has done a nice job at Auburn… but definitely up and down. I’d actually prefer someone with no connection to Mississippi state baseball. Or id at least not like to limit our search to guys who have previously been here. I’m a no on mingione and butch

Everything I have ever heard is that he and his family are very happy and settled down at Auburn. Believe he is a grandparent now.

I don't think it's clear at all that Lemonis is gone. But Butch probably isn't even an option. Even if he were, that would be a typical lazy, mediocre hire. He's had a couple of good post-seasons, but overall mediocre record. 115-143 SEC record should get a coach fired by Mississippi State, not hired by Mississippi State.

He wouldn't be the worst we could get but far from the best. I think we need to set our expectations a bit higher that Butch.

You lost me right here. Moving on from Lem should be the most crystal clear thing in all of MSU sports right now.
You have more faith in our administration than I do. If he wins 12 games, which I think is pretty attainable, I think he'll be back.

Pat, I'm in agreement with you on this. I have no faith in Keenum to make the change especially if this team some how wins the series versus Ole Miss. I could easily see the administration trying to spin this as a rebuilding year, and next year will be better. Maybe Goat and/or Cheese are let go. All the while punting the issue down the line to be dealt with next year or 2027.

This is the last year of Lemonis' contract, correct?

So we're 25-19 (7-14). We will likely beat Memphis and UNA, that's 27-19. We will probably take 2 of 3 from Kentucky and Ole Miss, that gets us to 11-16. We will win the first 2 from Mizzou, then lose game 3 and be their only loss, putting us at 33-22 (13-17). That will give us the embarrassment of losing to a winless team and being their only win, that will likely keep us out of a regional, and it will also be enough for Keenum and Selman to keep him. They'll get in their feels about beating Ole Miss and finishing with 3 straight series wins. Hoover is single elimination so that doesn't matter too much.

We all know this is happening. Especially when 34-21 (14-16) will definitely get us in a regional. If we're going to keep the m17er then I at least want to see us play in the postseason.

It's the boosters, not admin that make the call and he's gone if they don't make a regional
If you have good administration, they make the decisions and get buy in from the boosters. If you're administration is following the boosters and the boosters are running the program, you have a disaster on your hands.

I've seen rumors that it is, but I've also seen it mentioned that he got an extension(maybe after last year?). I don't think it has been confirmed one way or the other.

I've seen that his last year is 2026. Which makes sense. Very rarely do you let a coach go into the last year of his contract.
What’ll happen is Lemonis will renegotiate his contract to his pre NC level and he’ll be retained

Mississippi State is the Notre Dame of college baseball.
This is hilarious. Six Pack Remembers Nominee. I can't figure out what to talk about first. The absolute ignorance of Notre Dame's history or the bat **** crazy overestimation of MSU. That people really think like this should be studied.

Folklore vs reality with our baseball history really is something.

Butch is more fiery than Lemon but that's not saying much. If you want a b@stard (which I believe we need), Lane Burroughs should be on the b@stard short list.

Hey, I’m referring to current day ND. A program that isn’t to the level of national expectations but the fans are crazy supportive.

No school, even LSU, has put more resources/support into college baseball, in spite of our lack of multiple titles, than MSU.

Just google baseball attendance records.

Did you see him almost have a stroke over a simple ball/strike call in the first game? He tore the ump a new one. When Lemon gets on to an ump, the ump shows no concern and actually backs Lemon down. The ump on Friday night didn’t even consider that.

Can't see us winning 12 Sec games, I also think we will have a new coach next year. Believe it or not but fans making so much noise about Lemonis can make a change.

Current day Notre Dame just played for a national title and has one season of fewer than 9 wins in the last decade. They are very much competitive.

The better comparison would be present day Nebraska football

Except, again, Nebraska has a winning tradition and championships. We are only important to college baseball in our own minds. It's a sport where no one really cares at all and the very little they do care amounts to, "Who won it all?" We've only been the answer one time. Congrats on attendance records, but those programs have trophies.

I see Mingione mentioned more than Butch lately, but it seems to me Butch has been at least as good with 1 more season, if not better.

On second thought... maybe they're the same:
Butch has 9+ seasons at Auburn (312-225; 115-143. 5 Regionals. 3 Supers. 2 CWS. Missed Regionals 4 times)
Nick has 8+ seasons at Kentucky (287-181; 101-119. 3 Regionals. 3 Supers. 1 CWS. Missed Regionals 4 times)

There’s not really a perfect football comparison to us, but in modern day terms Nebraska is the closest thing, though historically they’ve done more than our baseball program has.
