He's not in my top 5, but after that I'd think he'd be a valid candidate. Why?

* He has established recruiting connections in the area and has proven to be a very good offensive coach who isn't totally pass-happy.

* He didn't lose the team when they were 2-6 and ran the table to get bowl eligible.

* He's young and energetic.

* He proved he could implement his offense in one offseason.

*Only one SEC opponent but they moved the ball on Auburn as well as just about anybody else on the road, 2nd start for staff and freshman QB and with talent overall that's not above average for CUSA.

If we strike out with top targets (Petersen, Patterson, Tubs, etc) then I think he might deserve a look.

Thoughts?

...and his offense is good. The advantage he'd have coming to MSU is that the Bulldogs defense is not as terrible as USM's had been.

And USM's defense has improved this past month, they finished #70 in total defense, and I'd posted on November 7 that they were ranked 100th at the time.

We'll be glad to keep him for three more years before seeing him off to greener pastures. I think that if he were still available, he would be high on Byrne's list. He's polished, aggressive and focused. He took a decimated defense and turned it around late and turned the offense into something to see with two freshmen.

The "sound the attack" junk was from USM's recently terminated director of marketing, who also came up with winners such as "Nitchampsburg" and "Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime". Don't let that reflect on Fedora.

Does he refer to Southern as the flagship school of the state?

I think he's going to end up being a good coach for USM. He totally revamped the offense and had a freshman QB, at least two new WR's and a pretty weak offensive line.

The defense has very very little talent or speed, especially in the secondary. All things considered, I think he did a pretty good job given it was his first rodeo and the talent he was working with.

I think he's about as good as some of the other guys on lists being posted.
