Rebel backer here, I was wondering how this resigning will effect your recruiting class?

and start chasing skirts, yet again. Byrne is a workaholic and he'll hire the same for our football program. Just look at what Cohen has started with baseball. Ole Miss-enjoy your year!

I think Josh Boyd (LSU) becomes shaky and I think Montrell Conner probably becomes shaky as well - those are the two biggest worries in my book and I'm sure there are others.

I'm sure the hire will make a big difference to some of the swing guys, but in the end I say we probably hold on to 70%+ which would still make it our best class in some time.

A lot of it depends on how fast we make a hire. We'll probably lose a couple of guys regardless, but it would help if the new coach could come in soon and talk to these guys before any of them jump ship.

if you dont think a Petersen coming in wouldnt bring in a player or two we dont normally get, you're wrong. And any decent recruit will gladly follow our upgrade in coaching staffs

If it's Petersen I think we have a great shot of getting Patterson back and Bumphis as well

before an official announcement is made, he will have faxed, no e-mailed, no blackberried the list of recruits' phone #'s and e-mail addresses to the new coach. The calls/visits will start immediately. The mistakes of 5 years ago will not happen this time.

Or are you just naturally good at it? Did you just hop over from the free board on the Spirit or Gene's page?

I'm thinking of the Tyler Russell example specifically... If it's true that he's such a Croom guy, his decision to stay would be made easier if he thought Croom was supportive. On the other hand, if Croom calls him and says, in effect, "MSU f'ed me in this deal" I would guess TR might de-commit. We'll probably find out soon.

I agree, recruiting was horrible under crooms up to this point. If it is Peterson i would be willing to bet this years efforts by crooms and staff would even improve. We may lose a few of those committed, but the new staff will be able to handle it and probably even improve it.

Crooms recruits got him in to the situation that lead to his resignation. I don't think there is any reason at all not to think that our recruiting improves drastically from this point forward, and with the right hire we will see kids crooms had no chance at getting.

Patterson is gone, he's not going to MSU.

Bumphis has completely forgotten that MSU exists. He is likely headed to UF if his momma doesn't get in his way. Bama or Ole Miss if she helps make the decision.

I think you'll keep Cox and Phillips. Cox was wavering before the firing...but if you make a quick, good hire its likely he'll stay.

Boyd is gone, in my opinion.

I'm not sure a new coaching staff will want Lawrence.

I imagine that several, several MS players will be dropped by a guy like Petersen, much like Nutt dropped several of Orgeron's MS commits from last year...he did lose a couple, however (Brown, Mitchell).

Looks like Byrne has been planning this might happen. He has gained NCAA approval to personally recruit. It seems he will try himself to see to it our recruits know exactly what he wants them to know.
