From a Georgia board:

<font size="2">When I think of Dan Mullen, I think of Rich Rodriguez. They both run great offenses and both got opportunities at schools that were dropping off radars. When you hire a guy that has an offense like his, it will keep you in games. It eats clock, it's versatile. Great run/pass ratio. And it makes the defense play more assignments. If he can find a guy who can coach defense to play somewhat similar to what they had before, I think they will be much more competitive than MSU has seen in a while. Think about it, the only reason they suck right now is because their defense was always on the field [because the offense was pitiful]. I think it's the best hire possible for MSU, and I commend them for getting him. Great choice, IMO. Huge upgrade over that joke, Croom. Damn, I wish they had kept him. He was great for the rest of the conference. I kinda thought he was untouchable, but their new AD is not playing around.

In response to a poster that said Mullen will never get "Tebow-type" talent to Starkville:

<font size="2">You ***, Mullen's offense worked pretty well with 2* Alex Smith. Tebow is an amazing player, yes, but you need to stop pretending that UF is going anywhere when he leaves. Newton and Brantley are both top-shelf talents. Bumphis to MSU looks pretty likely now, imo. He's infatuated with the Percy Harvin role (that Mullen tried to sell Gerald Jones on). And Mullen can truthfully sell Bumphis on it at MSU.

just a point of clarification: mullen wasn't the oc at utah.

i think this guy is an upgrade over croom though. byrne got a guy from a great program. that says something about him for sure.

it must be one helluva hire, since he pretty much also writes State off. The general response of callers and his "expert" friends is shock, and maybe denial.
