subquestion: Is JA, the AAA champs last year, going to finally play a public school in football?

obligatory private school commment: Prep gave the 3A MHSAA state champs their only loss of the season last year.... and prep didnt even win the MAIS.

that the SACS accredited private schools are looking into moving to the MHSAA. The new MHSAA executive director has it as one of the things on the long term agenda.

Tupelo Christian Prep has already made the move.

Jackson Prep will probably lead the max exodus. They have been told that with the private school indexing, they would be 4A with Richland, Florence, Mendenhall, Magee, Raymond, Newton Co. . Definitely a winnable district in football, they would struggle in basketball with Raymond there. Prep beat the 4A champs last year, so they could definitely compete.

Jackson Academy and MRA would also be around a 4A school - but would probably fall in the Yazoo district.

Hillcrest would be 2A with St. Andrews and St. Joseph's in their district.

Oak Hill, Heritage and Starkville Academy would be 3A.

Jackson Prep has remaining St Stan, Pearl and Forest,

No JA has yet to sack up. Sorta strange because they play interleague in basketball and baseball.

the JA/Prep level has become a joke in football. There is just no one that can compete with those two schools and the MPSA only makes like 4 other schools do so.

I think you are talking about Prep beating St. Stanislaus. I think they were the 4A state champs, not3A. I could be wrong. Prepalso beat Forest, who did not win a state championship. Forest made the playoffs in either 2A or 3A.

Didn't realize thatall MAIS schools weren't accredited by SACS.In the Alabama Independent School Assoc (AISA),I believe that member schools are required to be accredited bySACS. Not that I'm impressed by SACS after seeing some of the schools, public and private, that they accredit.

Only about 30 of the Mississippi private schools in the MPSA were SACS accredited.

I know that would be a requirement if a school wanted to join the MHSAA.

Here's the list

Adams County Christian
Bass Memorial
Bayou Academy
Brookhaven Academy
Canton Academy
Central Academy
Central Hinds Academy
Columbia Academy
Greenville Christian
Heritage Academy
Hillcrest Christian
Indianola Academy
Jackson Academy
Jackson Prep
Kirk
Lamar
Lee Academy-Clarksdale
MRA
Magnolia Heights
Manchester
Marshall
Oak Hill
Parklane
Pillow
Porter's Chapel
PCS-Hattiesburg'
Russell Christian
Simpson Academy
Starkville Academy
Sylva Bay
Trinity Episcopal
University Christian
Washington
Winston Academy
Wilkinson Christian

Its now 35. Mississippi Schools that are not SACS accredited that play in the MPSA

Class A
Delta Academy
DeSoto School
Marvell
Tunica
Deer Creek
North Sunflower
Strider
Calhoun Academy
Hebron Christian
Kemper Academy
Winona Christian
Benton Academy

Sharkey Issaquena
Tri-County
Calvary Christian
Mt. Salus

Laurel Christian
Lamar Christian
Prentiss Christian
Wayne Academy

Class AA
North Delta
Carroll Academy
Leake Academy
Amite School

Class AAA

39 MAIS schools are not SACS accredited. This would be your AISA-modeled league. Mostly small schools. I imagine that ERA would get their asses in gear if it came down to it. They lost their accreditation a couple years back.

But it is something to be concerned about if you don't have it. Let's just say that.

to schedule the public school teams. There is a very good chance that they will inevitably the MAIS will fold. Even if it deosn't, the threat of Prep and JA leaving- and playing public schools increases that threat- is enough to keep their power intact.

At least if the MAIS folds, playing public schools in Mississippi won't be a foreign concept to their players, and they will know where they stand in the league should that happen. I don't think it's a coincidence that Prep is playing one 3A team, a 4A team, and a 5A team.

Personally, I would love to see Prep play Madison Central, Clinton, Ridgeland, or Northwest Rankin. Those would be interesting games.

I would have to wonder if they would add another A class and go to 8A, or maybe just have a small classification and call it something like AA or B.

You add 60+ schools , that's a large influx of small schools into the MHSAA all of a sudden.

it was a forgone conclusion they were headed to MHSAA. As of our conversation, he said the plan was to start 3A and move to 4A. I believe there was to be a one year acclimation period. The major holdup has been some girls sports issues.

And would no doubt get accreditation with SACS to join MHSAA. The administration will do what ever it takes to stay competitive with JP. Kind of sad really. But then again they have turned down offers from Pelahatchie to play them in baseball.

I don't see it happening. Prep and JA has it made. They can win the Acacemy AAA evey year and play public schools if they wish. The only problem they might have is finding three, four and five A schools to play. Sooner or later they will figure out that Prep can play and will not schedule them. Prep will then have to schedule Six A schools and many of them may not want to play them out of the fear of losing.

They'll have 5 or 6 division games, plus they'll continue to play JA and MRA out of division so that gives them 7 or 8 right there. They won't have any problem finding another 3 or so games because schools will know that when they play Prep, they'll sell a lot of visitors tickets when they have the home game. Prep, JA and maybe MRA really need to be in the MHSAA. There's just nobody in academy football that can compete with them.

I heard from a former MAIS official that Prep would be 5A due to its ability to draw without borders.

Prep against Provine or Lanier in hoops....ouch. That could get really ugly.
