I think the SHG game will tell us a lot... I feel the Rochester persona is going to win a few games for them... To be perfectly honest, I believe Phillips, Geneseo, Rockford Lutheran, Althoff, Marengo... maybe a couple others, would be 8-0 right now playing the schedule Rochester plays. I could be wrong, but we don't really know because it is a closed conference.

SHG/Rochester, but only as it applies to SHG. A Cyclone win will probably give them a #2 seed behind LWN (if the Phoenix also win this Friday). A loss by SHG makes the southern 6A bracket even tougher for them. A win or loss by Rochester will make absolutely NO difference. They will march to the 4A championship game regardless of their seed. In fact, they could be seeded #16 and would still make it.

Althoff (#4 in 4A) v Triad (#3 in 5A) square off. If Althoff loses, they could give the top southern bracket seed to ranked Columbia.

For Columbia's sake, I'm glad Althoff has been so successful... I'm sure Columbia is tired of going undefeated and getting the #1 or #2 seed to face 5-4 Althoff in the first round... I know it has happened at least the last 2 years.

Maybe, but then again Rochester, and even some of the teams on Rochester's schedule, would probably also be unbeaten or have much better records than they have in the CS8 if they played the schedule of some of the teams you mentioned. Decatur Eisenhower is capable of putting up a lot of points. 5A shouldn't sleep on them.

People who've seen them play say Rochester's offense is better than last year. It makes sense, with their QB back and two very good athletes transferring in.

Chicago Phillips this year had 4 D1 transfers....They will get Rochester this year. Of coarse if they don't go 3A. They should be a 6-8A team.

The only way Phillips beats Rochester is if they can get Derek Leonard to coach them for the championship game. Having athletes alone does not a championship team make! - Confucius

I for one would love to see Phillips at Geneseo. I feel like the bus ride, the environment, and the top notch coaching would make that a really good game.
They played two yearsago at Gatley. Not even close. Phillips has gotten better so this would be a interesting game for sure

I can't believe nobody is talking about the big Mercer County/Monmouth United match-up. (I simply wanted to write a post with Monmouth in it because I know where it is and I want it to feel loved.)

And does anyone else find it odd that Galesburg is playing a team from Michigan in the last week of the season? Are there no other teams available in Western Illinois? Is this a bad sign for the future of high school football?

It is just because of conference mobility, poor scheduling, and sometimes teams just want to experience something different. If anything it is a good sign... Playing out of state and winning is the only way that Illinois can get up there with the Pennsylvanias, Ohios, Florida, Georgia, Texas... etc. I know this is Michigan, but I think out of state games are a great experience for the kids.
