What are the chances that Chugs starts next year over Howard?

I like SH. I think he's tough, a good leader, and a competitor but he has some obvious limitations. Will Dana's contract status affect who starts?

It will depend on who grabs on to the
"system." Since that is the case it will take a huge effort to unseat SH imo. I do find it odd that the "system" doesn't seem to stick with his QB recruits. Either too complicated or...

Depends on how Chugs is progressing. I think we all assumed Crest would eventually win out this year, but that never happened. Either these younger guys just aren't picking it up, or DH leans heavily on experience.

It's a shame that Crest doesn't seem to be an option. If he didn't beat out SH this year, there's little chance of it happening next year. For Chugs to jump to starter would mean that he really looks great or Dana is building for the future (or both).

If I'm Dana and next season is make or break for me I'm starting the QB who can make all the throws necessary to win over a QB who gets us into the right play. It's Dana's responsibility to get the QBs to know the system and make the correct reads. Either three things happen. 1 Howard like Clint makes huge strides between now and next season. 2 Another QB becomes the guy. 3 Howard is Dana's guy no matter what and its the same song and dance next season.

If Howard, Crest, Sills, and Chugs all stay and adopt an "all for one, one for all " attitude with all their skills, experience, and perspectives from playing different positions, the QB situation will be very, very good. I wouldn't count Sills or Crest out yet, especially if we get a OC. I think everyone would view it as a new opportunity.

Crest and Sills can run some, but are rumored to be below average passers, Chugs can throw the ball better than the other two, but can't run very well.....Howard doesn't run well and doesn't pass well....That is Holgs dilemma.....If Chugs can just be counted on to make the third and 4 or 5yd throws it would be a game changer for Holgs......

Is Skyler Howard transferring or otherwise leaving the team? If the answer is no, then he will be the starter. Any more questions? Well, I guess someone else will start if Skylar were to get injured and unable to play. That's the only way.

If we lose the bowl game, and Skylar doesn't play well, I think we enter the spring with a 4-man race. We have to remember Skylar was banged up the last 3 or 4 games. He will be healthy by January 2nd. At that point he will have had 15 games to show if he can make the throws, which is more than enough.

The bowl game means nothing to Dana's future. It means everything to Skylar's.

I doubt very seriously he will be our starter next year. If he is, DH is gone because that means we suck again.

If Skyler Howard is the starter, we should prepare for another few years of mediocrity IMO. There has to be something better in the cupboard. Hard to believe we struggle with these QB recruits.

These guys were sought after recruits (Stills, Crest), crazy how they aren't panning out.

I think the only thing to be said is that no one outside the program has seen enough of Chugunov to have any idea. Not only haven't we seen enough, no one in the media has either so literally no one outside the program can have any sort of legitimate position.

We know, at most, that relatively early in the season Holgorsen not only did not think he could do better than Howard, he didn't think he could do well enough to even give him a chance when Howard was floundering. If he thought Chugunov could help the team during the early stages of the season , he would have played him. At a certain point though, even if Chugunov was improving (maybe even especially if he was improving) it wouldn't make sense to burn the redshirt and lose an entire year for a few games. There's no bright line on when it's too late to burn the redshirt, but I'd think if Chugunov was game ready by game 6, it would have still been worth giving him a shot, After that maybe not, especially when we started running more and playing weaker teams for games 8-12.

Holgorsen would be a bigger fool than I think he is if he didn't have an open competition for QB next season. Given that Howard is not very good, it's certainly possible he will be beat out. But, just because Howard isn't very good doesn't mean we will have someone better. Everyone will be hoping for that, but we just have to wait and see.

I don't think it matters who is QB Dana hasn't recruited one as of yet that was both good and reliable for an entire season. And the fact that the kids we have at that position have already been moved to other positions or weren't even recruited by P5 schools, I see no reason to think the 2016 season will be any different.

One thing you have to remember is Sills is a Freshman. I think DH wanted him on the field but wasn't ready for the QB job just yet. Sills wanted to play anywhere he could just to get on the field. I would venture to say he will start next year.

For God's sake, whether you think he will start or not, at least spell the kid's name correctly.

Now listen here........................I know that Skylar can be spelled with either an e or an a. I have eight college degrees and am currently enrolled in remedial King's English classes! Don't let my choice of spelling upset you to the point of using God's name. Now, I don't just think Skyler will start..............I know he will start.

Holgs probably has been given one last year to make significant strides with the program. If that isn't stressful enough, I don't think Holgs will change QBs, just too risky.

Reality indicates that Holgs was given many years to win more than 7 games. If he doesn't come up with the wins...............he takes the money and runs. Holgs is a winner in either case. Now, onct and for all...............................Skylar is your QB next year.

I want some of what you are smoking! He is not a big time QB, but I'll root like hell for him if he is still our QB

SH well be the starter again, DH leans heavily on experience. I would like to see Chrest, Chuggs and Still get a real shot during game situations.
