I have to agree with Coach on this one. Expectation for baseball is always to see us in Omaha, BUT I will be upset with less than 32 regular season wins. This many W's ( obviously depends on how they are distributed) should get you into a the sec tournament and a regional.

I certainly did. The fact that we turned in basically the same season we did last year is very disappointing to me and gives me some doubts about Cohen. Hopefully he will prove me wrong next year.

to have a good baseball team. First, we need to see who is staying and going (today). Second, out of this recruiting class who is actually going to make it to campus (MLB draft). Third, how much of this class can be immediate impact players in D-1 ball, and how quickly can the staff turn them into SEC ball players. I say, if all of this goes our way, we will be 10-12 games better, finish around 5-7th in the SEC, and get a tournament bid. You have to remember that we were 3 games away from making the SEC this year, and hopefully we have some guys in this recruiting class that can pick up the bullpen (depending on a lot of freshmen/first year players to be successful next year).

With the games we lost in late innings this year, and hopefully much better pitching talent, I predict 36-20 overall and 15-15 SEC record.

that we turned in the same season but we did it with a coach who had to at the same time try to change the work ethic and attitude of someone else's players. instead of just working on fundamentals and polishing their game he had to change the way they approached the game. i would think this could throw a player out of sync for a while.

we looked better on almost all stats except for the W/L column. the inconsistencies in base running and other areas of weakness could stem from the transition of a new coach, change in culture, eagerness to prove a player needs to be kept on the team, and unfortunately from the players being a bit rattled by having a coach actually yell at them to do better.

/i haven't graded him for it yet. i would have to go with a C at best. i bet Cohen wouldn't go that high though.

Our expectations should not change year to year- we should have levels of expectations for our programs, and demand that they be met regularly...

1. Football- bowl game, with a higher level game every 4-5 years
2. Basketball- SEC title, NCAA's, Sweet 16+ every 4-5 years
3. Baseball- SEC title, regional, Super, Omaha once every 3 years

Because we dont make these goals one year doesnt mean we are underachieving, but when they start to not be met with regularity, then there is a problem...Obviously Cohen was left with **** this season, and I think he did as well as could have been done. But that doesnt mean expectations for our program change, and he is expected to return our program to performing in the manner of those expectations

they're ridiculous.

Though I assume this means Cohen gets an F this year for failing to meet a single expectation?

Cohen doesnt get an F because of what Polk left him. But that doesnt mean our program lowers itself. It does mean that Cohen has to get us back to those expectations soon or he will be a memory as well. No hiring or firing of a coach ever depends on ONE season. It is a cumultive assessment on a number of seasons.

The assessment of our baseball season goes like this- Our baseball season did not meet program expectations due to incompetence by the previous coach. Coach Cohen has 2 more seasons to return us to our level of expectations. If he is successful, he will receive more time to continue. If he does not, we will do a program assessment to ascertain why we are not meeting expectations. If another coaching change is necessary, we will make it.

and what's being asked is your season expectations for next year. What would mean that Cohen has a successful season or not?

Cohen needs to meet the minimum requirement for our program- a regional. He's had his transition year, now its time to move forward.

last year to this year though was that last year we had some relief pitching of which we had virtually none this year. Put Aaron Weatherford on this team and I feel without hesitation we have 7 or 8 more wins. That alone could have turned a 25-29 record into a 32-22 record. So while we did have a similar record from last year to this year, the fact remains that we also had less talent this year than we did last year, especially in the pitching staff. Routt ended up being a decent replacement for Pigott, but we had nobody to replace a true closer like Weatherford or even someone to give us middle relief like Lalor.

but they are not the same. I agree that our goals should about what coach said - taking off the "every 3-5 years" junk. That's your goal every year. But expectations have to factor in a little thing called reailty. If you lost your entire starting offensive line to injury, you still expect to make a bowl game? If you lost 95% of your scoring due to graduation and the draft, you still expect an SEC title in basketball?

And just for clarity, I don't expect a bowl game from MSU next year - but it damn sure better be the goal of our team.

I don't expect us to have a winning SEC record or do much damage in a regional, but I think 13-17 and a #3 seed is an achievable goal.

I'm going with the same results as this year because more than likely after one bad series he'll just quit on the team again and start blaming it on the NCAA for not having enough scholarships.
