What are your preseason expectations regarding Mullen?

Taking into consideration what I would consider a difficult schedule, I would expect these type of responses for the given outcomes in the coming year:

3 wins = "ruh roh, not again"

4 wins = "not what I was hoping for, but the jury is still out"

5 wins = "was hoping for better, but kind of what I expected"

6 wins = "this could get interesting"

7 wins = "pop the cork we have us a winner"

Is this a fair assessment or does it need to be adjusted by a game either way?

Anything more would be gravy. If he can somehow get us to 6-6 and a PapaJohns Bowl bid, he should get serious consideration for SEC coach of the year.

/sarcasm.

At this point, I think four wins is what I am expecting - maybe five if we get a few breaks here and there.

and still be 4-8 with our schedule.

But I'm hoping 5-6 wins. September will mean everything.

JSU, Houston, MTSU,

possilbe four wins - @ Vandy

six wins we will have to upset somebody - @AU, @ky

If he can get those six, we are in biznass for some PapaJohns.

in ypg on offense and in the middle third (#5-9) in pts/game. That translates into about 80 more yards/game and 4-5 points more/game. I also expect Tyson Lee to move into the top 5 (SEC) in pass eff. and ypg. ( 190 ypg).

I think the improvement in play calling and performance out of the WR's will help the play of the QBs tremendously.

The running game should be about the same, with most of the offensive improvement coming from the passing game.

I think one of two scenarios will unfold.
1). We finish around .500 and Mullen gets coach of the year consideration in the SEC.
2). We win 3-4 games and Mullen goes home to his wife crying every night "Why did I leave Florida?"

3 wins = very bad yes, but not the end of the world

4 wins = about what can be reasonably expected probably

5 wins = very successful first go around for Mullen

6 wins = Riding on Meyers coattails huh??

7 wins = Expand the stadium boys... next several years are going to get interesting.

Seeing as JSU is the only terrible team on our schedule, I dont see us losing to any terrible teams.. MTSU is not a bad team and going there sucks.. Houston had one of the best offenses in the nation last year and they have a quarterback that was talked about as a heisman candidate last year..
I think we still win those three.. We could beat auburn, kentucky, vanderbilt, arkansas, and georgia tech but I really dont see us beating auburn, arkansas, or GT. The other four I will go ahead and consider losses. I think 4-5 wins would be respectable. I dont want to go 0-8 in the SEC tho for sure.

Depending on what Houston does, your team may only be favored in two games. If that is the case, it would take two upsets to get to four wins.

Houston is supposed to be pretty good. This is hands down one of our hardest schedules since I have been watching State play. We would have a much better shot at a bowl game with UM's cakewalk schedule. I might go watch when they play Mississippi School of the Blind and Deaf.

What we have done leading up to the Houston/MTSU games. With Houston's offense, we could easily be even money or worse, and with having to go on the road at Middle Tenn., a team that not only beat Maryland last year but lost to Kentacky by 6 in Lexington, we could possibly be looking at being underDOGS in every game but JSU.

a more competitive team on the field that can actually score some points and have a solid kicking game. The schedule is murder this year.

Still...if we get any kind of freshman contribution to this team we could surprise some folks during the season.

I also expect, no matter what the win total is, a team that you can actually see improving by season's end.

all his mistakes will be blamed on Croom; all of his success, even with Croom recruits, will be in spite of Croom.

My problem is that we've been losing too damn long to have this much patience. Croom's 7-5 is our only winning season since Al Gore invented the Internet, or it about fells that way to me.

I say cut out the ********. It's either Mullen's Bulldog team or it's a worthless ****** fantasy that ain't going anywhere.

We could easily go 1-11 next season. Mullen needs to win 6 games.

And I think it's more likely we end up on the lower end of that. I would be pretty happy with five wins. Of course I'm hoping for 6+ wins and a bowl game, but that's not what I'm expecting. No coach needs to be on a five year plan (or seven year or however long it was Croom thought he had), but I'm willing to give this year a pass with regards to the record, as long as we win a few. The schedule is just that tough too. If we had last year's schedule I would expect a little more, but this year is about surviving and laying the ground work for '10. If we pull a few (actually it would need to be several) upsets and get to a bowl, I'm just that much more excited.

Like others have said, I'm mostly looking for improvement with on the field performance, rather than the W/L column. If we are going in the right direction with the team, then the wins will start coming the next season.

MTSU was very unpredictable last year, but I expect every team except JSU to be competitive. Hopefully a few of these teams will be worse than most people expect. If we lose to a team like Vandy and they unexpectedly go 3-9, which I doubt happens, that would be a bad loss.

If we can't beat J-State, MTSU, Ga. Tech, Auburn with their incompetent 4-19 coach Gene Chizik, Vanderbilt, Kensucky, Houston at home, or give payback to OM and their alcoholic, neo-Nazi, latent-homosexual fan base, then we will always suck as a football program and have no business wasting our money going to Starkvegas in the fall.

The only games I count as a sure losses are Arkansas and LSU, because MState has as many problems with those teams as State used to have against Bear at Bammer. Bammer? We've split the last 16 games with them. Florduh? They haven't won at Scott Field since it was actually called Scott Field.

with 4 50/50 games

probable wins: JSU, MTSU, vandy and houston

probable losses: lsu, bamer, fla and ole miss

50/50 games; ga tech, au, ark and ky...

take 3 of the 4 probables, 1 of the probable losses and 2 of the 50/50 games and we win 6...

if he is a good quality sec coach, we can realisticly expect that... if he beats ole miss, i'll except 5 wins....

My expectations are that we looked more organized, look better coached, and are able to put some points on the board...if those things happen, the wins will happen

With this years schedule, we will be anywhere from 4-8 to 6-6

unit and slap Nutt in the face with it. I fully expect this to happen during half time celebrations during this years Egg Bowl.

As far as wins, I expect we win 5.

They return almost everyone from last year's team, including their entire O-line. They are well coached and don't make mistakes, and it's on the road.
I think we're a lot more likely to win at Kentucky or Auburn than we are at Vanderbilt.

Also, Houston's a 50-50 game at best, with their high powered offense and Heisman candidate (well, that's pretty unlikely actually) QB. I might even put Kentucky as a more likely win than Houston.

- No hooded sweatshirts

- No punting from your own 30

- No crying after every victory over Bama or Ole Miss

- Even when you lose, it will be because the other team has better players, not because you have the worst offensive system in the SEC.

i'm not labeling whether our season is a success or not based on the number of wins in Mullen's 1st season . Due to a hellacious schedule and Croom's leftovers, its a given that wins are going to be hard to come by this 1st year. Mullen wasnt left with some top round draft picks the way Nutt was.

Success for us this year will simply be looking more organized and being better coached. Because if that is the case, then we will start winning at Miss State.

Houston? MTSU beat Maryland? Give me a break. We used to play teams like Texas, Oklahoma State, and Oregon in our non-conference schedule. Who else do you want to play for non-conf, Colgate?

The toughest SEC teams on our schedule are in Starkville.

This is about as reasonable as our schedule ever gets. Now grow some balls and swap your panties for a jock strap.

We are horrible. Last year, we were horrible and horribly coached. At least this year, perhaps we will be better coached. But we still have very little talent, so we should be concerned with every game on the schedule. Houston and MTSU could beat us, unless we come prepared. We can't sleepwalk against anyone.

I would much rather have the Kentucky's, Vandy's, and Arkansas's at home. In a year when we are projected to be down, those teams on the road make a W that much tougher. This year, you can pretty much chalk up LSU, Florida, and Bama as a loss no matter where we play them. But Kentucky, Vandy, Arkansas, and even Auburn, I would feel much better about getting a W if the game was in Starkville.

some of you mofo`s need to follow it a little closer. 3 wins will be about right, 4 would be a wonderful accomplishment but 2 is more likely than 4.

We 17ing suck and we have 4 top 10 preseason teams coming to Starkville. We don't project to have a chance of hell of beating any of them no matter where we play them. All of our potentially winnable conference games are on the road, which gives our opponents a significant advantage. In 1999, I'd have loved to have this SEC schedule. But in 2009, I'd a lot rather it be reversed.</p>
