What are your thoughts on Pat Hill as head coach?...

I know we are not likely to fire Croom, but Pat knows football and how to run a team. I just read the article on Jim McElwain and Pat Hill hints to the fact that he would like to coach in the SEC. He runs a fundamentally sound program and is a winner. I think he would be a good fit at MSU.

I think that would be a solid hire and obviously a big upgrade, but not the homerun that we need.

There doesn't seem to be a great pool of candidates out there and there will be some nice openings. You have to wonder if Ole Miss would have fired O last year if Nutt hadn't suddenly become available. Byrne needs to be sure we have 3 quality candiates that are very interested in the MSU job. Or maybe if somebody suddenly become available like Tubberville, that factors into his decision making process.</p>

I think we should hire a young up and comer. We need someone who will use us as a stepping stone, not as a retirement plan.

We pay the walrus the 30th highest salary in the country and that is before the ESPN money gets here. Other than the powerhouse programs like Texas, UF, Bama and other jobs like that there aren't a whole lot of jobs better than SEC jobs. We could get a really good coach and keep him for awhile. Most coaches have egos, MSU would be a good choice for someone that really wanted to leave a legacy. It says something about us that Jackie Sherrill was about 4 good years away from having a statue erected outside Scott Field. It really might appeal to someone to have a school associated with their name. But still if someone does well enough for a big time school to come after him that means we are in good shape to make another hire.

Look at Pat Hill's record. Yeah, he has the big wins, but for every one of those he has 2 losses that he should have never lost. In 10 years, he's never won the WAC. As much as we ***** about Crxxm losing to LA Tech this year (and rightfully so), Pat Hill lost to them too. Yeah, he'd be an upgrade over Crxxm (who wouldn't be?), but we can do a lot better than Pat Hill.

Being a stepping stone is highly under-rated. It didn't turn out too badly for Mississippi when Tommy Tuberville used them as a stepping stone.

O-ver-ra-ted.

Not only that, but he is a heavy JUCO recruiter, and they have had some off-field issues.
