Pitino isn't going to resign and walk away from that much money, so he is sending a strong signal he is staying. The University isn't going to fire him and write a $50M check, so they are saying they want him back.
If the NCAA investigation proves that Pitino didn't exercise sufficient control over his program, or worse, knew about the activity, then UL can terminate for cause and not pay anything. Pitino would probably sue if that were to happen.

Not sure how much Donavon would want to be an assistant coach. Padgett would be a good fit from a coaching standpoint if Rick wants to go that way. Or he could go with a AAU guy to get some players in. Then it's always Richard if he gets canned at Minnesota.
