UL is nothing but a cesspool but I don't see the NCAA taking away their title. I don't think they have ever taken one away. UL should be hit hard. As for McGee it is easy to see that he must have been paid off. All you have to do is follow the money. I would love to see UL and UNC have games & titles taken away.

I can see the logic for the NCAA not giving them "Lack of Institutional Control". This is one institution that had complete control of what was going on so that would not apply. Prostitution and strippers were controled by the insitution's representatives. It is who they are. They were controlling it quite well until Miss Katrina went public.

I have no idea where the NCAA will end up on this, but penalties like vacating wins/titles do not require the allegations that you mentioned were missing.

And the fact that they're missing should not be taken as an indication that the NCAA intends to go light on UL. It simply means the facts of the case didn't support allegations of lack of institutional control, etc.
Admittedly, I don't know enough about NCAA process and history to make any authoritative claims. I was just looking at this simplistically: if they don't levy those very serious charges, does it indicate the NCAA doesn't view all of this as a serious situation?

Not necessarily. Keep in mind that there are two different parties involved in determing violations and punishments, the NCAA enforcement staff and the Committee on Infractions (COI). Whether the NCAA views this as serious is somewhat irrelevant as it's the COI the will ultimately decide, and the COI is technically independent.

Also, the COI could view this as serious but not give significant additional penalties if they believe the self-imposed penalties were somewhat significant. We'll just have to wait what the committee's final report says, but I haven't seen enough to get a good read on which way they'll go just yet.

You're always spot on about this stuff. Would love to get your feel for what you think the COI will do to UNC.

Please. Someone give me one logical reason McGee would have a key to disarm the fire alarm door, other than to sneak prostitutes into the dorm.

Who gave him this key, and why would they ever give this guy a key to disarm the fire alarm?
This ^. This, in and of itself, must be a crime.

Lack of MF Institutional Control.

Just a little clarification.

Fire alarms are not a "disarmable" system. They operate 24/7. Zones may be bypassed on occasion, but a key is not used in either case. It is most likely a "fire" or "emergency" exit only door. In this case those are generally locally monitored with a sounder built in the device itself and can easily have the battery removed to disable it. Most will normally see a sign that reads "Open door and alarm will sound". Thats one step above no security at all.

No clue. If I were to just read the first NOA in isolation, or even the third, I would feel pretty confident in saying they are going to get hit pretty hard.

However, everything about the UNC case has been completely unprecedented, from the scope of the violations, to the degree to which UNC is trying to avoid accountability, to the way the investigation has played out.

My jaw hit the floor when the first amended NOA was released. Never in a million years would've expected an amended NOA to be so watered down from the first. That just doesn't happen.

With all of that, I simply have no clue where this ends up. But if you put a gun to my head and forced me to place a bet, I'd be putting my money on some serious penalties for UNC. Their latest effort yesterday to begin discrediting their own Wainstein Report smells a bit of desperation to me at least.

Yeah, great logic. Comparing drugs to the shady world of college athletics.

Take off the blinders for a second and realize how scummy college athletics really are. Have you been around major college sports as a student or employee? All kinds of crap goes down. Tutors writing papers for athletes that are not the sharpest knife in the drawer, getting discounts at malls, getting to borrow cars, etc.

AAU is super shady so let's stop pretending that no shenanigans are occurring in some capacity. Obviously it may not as bad or as insane as UNC or as dirty as Louisville.

When you first state "everywhere" or "everyone" or "all" credibility is immediately lost with me. (Not that it matters.) That kind of statement is completely wrong. I do not accept that premise. Unless I accept it we cannot agree. Be Good

Any system that can be defeated with a key is pretty prehistoric. I would expect a more state of the art system.

so, you pretty clearly keep up with this stuff - is this just a matter of personal interest/geek, or is it more than that? As I type that, i realize it's pretty nosy! so no worries if you don't want to get into that.....

Which is why they have it. Cameras not working for two months, they didn't want them working.
The cameras didn't work over the four years this went on. Maybe McGee could turn them off also.........it isn't a big stretch to say that if he would shut the fire alarm on the door off that he wouldn't shut down the security cameras..... Pretty crafty guy to end up being a Uber driver......?

I just can't see how they keep that title. I really can't. The defense that recruits actually didn't come here because of this makes me laugh non stop. You have to remember, these are 18 year kids who future, in their minds, have a professional career in the pros. They don't want to risk that by saying this might have lured them there.

So the ones that didn't go to UL have an easy out. They don't have to worry about their families looking down on them so they get to report this actually kept them away. The truth, as most people know, is hostesses on recruiting trips have been showing recruits a good time at campuses all over the country. UL took it a step further by actually hiring strippers in the dorm.
UofLol are true professionals you know.

“the only conclusion that can be drawn is that McGee arranged the dances, offers and sexual activity to assist in the University’s recruiting efforts. However, the University does not believe these dances or sexual activities greatly assisted its recruiting efforts.”

Just because you don't think it helped in your recruiting doesn't make it any less repulsive.....UOLOLOLOL!

How about the donkey show? Did that help with recruiting efforts?

"Greatly" assisted in its recruiting effort.

What a ridiculous choice of words. Honestly, it doesn't matter if it helped at all, the fact is no one can make a claim like that and they are basically admitting it "could" have helped in some way by their own wording. Obviously, you wouldn't be doing it if you didn't think it would help or you didn't need it. You do it because you want to make certain recruits think tang is going to be part of their commitment. It's a case closed situation.

University/program employee
Probably using university funds.
buys hookers for recruits and parents
takes place in dorm rooms.

Case closed, if this were 15 years ago. Seems the new trend is to just blame it on an individual, call it rouge, self suspend, and it's good enough.

Uk's probation from the 80's wouldn't even run across the bottom scroll of ESPN today.
