Wow. Saw the reference to a Courier-Journal column at KSR, went to check it out, and low and behold it's true. A writer for that fish-wrap which is ordinarily so far in the tank for UofL/Jurich/Pitino that you have to wonder they don't just change to red font to make it official, actually wrote a piece today that makes RP look bad. Or at least call his past into question. I am stunned. He pulls this out of the book Raw Recruits, from the early 90s:
“After one upset victory at Rhode Island,” the book says, “Pitino was so juiced he ordered the team bus to stop at a strip joint on the way back to campus. There he led his players in wolf whistles, even disbursing dollar bills so they could stuff them into the dancers’ G-strings.”
The story is unattributed and, according to Pitino, largely fictitious. Yet in the context of Katina Powell’s claims about being paid to provide team sex services by U of L’s former director of basketball operations, Andre McGee, it amounts to more fuel on a growing wildfire.
“It never happened,” U of L spokesman Kenny Klein said after consulting with Pitino. “The team walked in to get food, thinking it was a restaurant. They found out it wasn’t and walked out.”
I keep saying to myself, what kind of sense does this make? Rick Pitino, of all people, in the middle of sex scandal storm? Who would have believed it. Who would have believed that a university led by Pitino and Petrino would find itself in this kind of mess. Just doesn't add up. I have to feel bad for Jurich......
