I don't believe he knew of the specific details of what went on with McGee, but I have no doubt that soon after Cal arrived at UK he sent out the edict to assistants that UL recruiting MUST get better by any means necessary, just don't tell him(RP) about what you're doing.

I agree with you. I just don't think Rick lied.
He may micro manage body weights, practice times, practice discipline etc, but maybe this illustrates many coaches (Pitino being one) isn't as personally involved with the kids as they act.
All coaches pretend to be connected to the kids on an intimate level, when the truth is most are more than likely really good bosses (for lack of better term) and not connected like we see with Cal.
Cal makes numerous personal visits during recruiting and stays in touch they're whole lives. His Umass and Memphis guys have the same open door policy with him. He doesn't even talk bad of Camby or Rose.
What we have in Cal is odd and great.

The NCAA will require weeks if not months just to release their charges. Penalties will be months after that.
