The problem is Tom Jurich. He's ran a rogue program for years now. He didnt even suspend Pitino through the Sypher ordeal. Then allowed Hurt to remain with the football team knowing good and well the guy was a cheater. Next he covered up incident after incident....from Behanan to Ware, to Jones all the way to the Death of a cheerleader , then hiring back Petrino with all of his problems...... Oh also allowing Petrino to take in guys kicked off other teams for obvious problems. And lets not forget robbing tax payers millions in the criminal chicken bucket ordeal.

I don't think T.J. will be the AD in a year from now. Either he'll bolt to a new team or get canned for lack of institutional control
amen to that...

They won't get a big name coach. No one would want to tread through that dumpster fire and replace a legend , a tarnished legend at that. I think they'll get a former player or coach for a few seasons and repair their image and then trying to get a top coach to come in.

I did find a number of factual inaccuracies in that report that completely discredit the piece. When the author uses words like "athletic powerhouse" its clear he hasn't done the proper research. The rest he got correct by accident.

He said UNLIKELY athletic powerhouse. In other words...they are a commuter college with a Potemkin Village of athletic venues.

Hey
How can you say the word "problem" and then use a word like "violations"?

See this is what I am talking about.

First people want to classify it as singular (problem), and what was added to make it plural (violations)???

This is obviously an orchestrated hit piece.

And of course it is a cultural issue, you wouldn't have societies without culture, and without societies you wouldn't have universities, and without universities the NCAA doesn't even exist!

Unless you are stupid it is easy to see we have nothing to worry about.

Photos, texts, receipts, witnesses, blah blah blah, where is the real evidence?

We did absolutely nothing wrong.

And if we did, it will be McGee's fault.

Zero sanctions for the university.

We are obviously innocent.

And if we are not, so what, everybody does it...

Hey brianpoe, I think there are some in this thread who think those are your words. Watch out! Haha!

But this comment from BeasleyCard is the final, desperate response many UofL fans I've read on message boards the last couple days. This is typical. Keep claiming conspiracy, vendetta, and deceit against those who have made these accusations or against anyone who would dare write an article. This is the mindset of Louisville fans. It's pure delusion. Either that or it's wishful thinking or outright intellectual dishonesty.

The Louisville fans who condemn this today will be vilified and shouted down. But it appears their reaction will be the right one in the end. It seems clear to me that Louisville athletics has been willing to win at all costs. And now, the chickens have come home to roost in the Yum! Center.

Yet another scandal at Louisville! Nobody should be surprised. And nobody should be surprised with what happened today.

What exactly happened today? In my mind, it was the same "business as usual" mentality that has permeated U of L athletics for most of the last decade. With the news that at least two young men verified at least some of what the school has been accused of, predictably, U of L leadership reacted accordingly. And when I say accordingly, I mean predictably.

Louisville President James Ramsey found the time to publicly endorse his athletics director. I find that absolutely stunning. When you look at the culture Tom Jurich has created with his "win at any cost" mentality, how could any reasonable person not hold him responsible for the happenings within HIS athletics department?

I think the "Jurich culture" is at least partly to blame for this disaster. How many kids has U of L taken as transfers that few others (or no others) would touch? How was Rick Pitino not suspended for, say, one year due to his disgusting personal conduct reference the Sypher scandal? I still have no idea how Tom Jurich was able to bring back Bobby Petrino. This is a guy that couldn't have treated U of L worse prior to leaving the first time. I guess his gutless exit from Atlanta and abhorrent behavior in Fayetteville were also irrelevant to Jurich. I'm not saying Petrino didn't deserve to be considered for big time jobs (because he's a very good football coach), but U of L?

And so today, President Ramsey gives Jurich a pat on the back. Rick Pitino says he isn't going anywhere. THIS is the culture I'm talking about. At a minimum, IMO anyway, Rick Pitino should be suspended until U of L has a reason to "un-suspend' him. His claims that he knew nothing are essentially irrelevant. It's clear now that things happened under his watch. This man has already proven that he's void of integrity and character. This makes two massive scandals in a 5-6 year window. How is he still being allowed to influence young people?

Then there's Tom Jurich. I have little doubt that he knew nothing of hookers and strippers, but this is the culture HE created. HE allowed Willie Williams to transfer in. HE allowed Devonte Fields to transfer in. HE kept Rick Pitino. HE brought back Petrino. And I won't even mention the fleece job reference the Yum Center. When you "roll the dice" on these things, you're supposed to pay the price if things go wrong. Well, things have gone horribly wrong.

IMO, Tom Jurich should be fired. If the university keeps him, they're just endorsing the culture that has led to embarrassment after embarrassment for the city, state, and university.

GBB!!!

I totally agree, and made about the same points in a thread on HOB. Jurich has brought in a bunch of bad kids, who have been kicked out of other programs for being bad, simply because they can play football, or basketball. Then he says that these kids just need another chance, and they are not really bad kids, they just made bad decisions. He doesn't give a rats butt about giving them another chance, he only cares what their time is in the 40, or can they shoot the 3. He took the same attitude with Petrino. It would be bad enough to take back a coach who had signed a 10 year contract, and then skips out on you, but to take one who also had the baggage that Petrino did from his Arkansas stint, says it all. No other AD in the country would have taken Petrino back at UL, except for Turtleneck. He is a disgrace as an AD, and a miserable excuse for a human being. Like I said on HOB, I hope they go down, and go down hard.

The most incriminating thing I've seen lately is the now deleted Chris Jones tweet dissing people who "sing like birds" when the pressure is on.

If the NCAA determines that anyone has lied to them, or suspects any kind of cover-up is going on, that is when the **** will hit the fan.

Thats rich coming from a guy who got booted off the team known for being rogue and banging hookers.

What's the rafters record for longest thread?

This would be it. The old format could barely make it past 8 before it truncated. Also, I don't believe there has ever been a topic so ripe for the picking. This is like a ul porcupine. Pick a quill, any quill, and poke them with it.

Ralph Willard will take over during the down years and coach them. Then after a couple years they will look to make a big name hire and rebuild. I could see that.

Has anyone put together a list of ul improprieties? I would love to have it including all the football players kicked off other teams, legal issues, law suits, scandals, etc... Surely someone knows. I can't keep up with all the second chance players. Thanks

It is curious that there has been no mention of any of the media trying to contact Antonio Blakeney for comment. Its like he is under witness protection.

I would like to hear what the Governor and the legislature think about this. The entire University has become a disgrace and an embarrassment to not only the city of Louisville but increasingly to the state. There are rampant sex scandals in the athletics dept...and financial scandals with Ramsey being investigated on the Foundation (fund raising side).

The Governor should start throwing his weight around...he does appoint people to the board does he not? If they do not clean house on the AD side and depending on what the AG finds with improprieties on the Foundation side....Jurich and Ramsey too should go.

At some point the old boys club mentality, Potemkin Village of Sporting venues, has metastasized in this latest ugly scandal. You have a sports team dorm where NO ONE has oversight. Pitino doesn't know what is going on inside its walls, nor does Jurich, or Ramsey? They do not have people imbedded in such a high profile building to report OVER the head of Pitino back to Jurich?

Jurich turns such a blind eye to a major sports team that his management style is simply, TRUST but don't worry about verifying. That hands off style, apparently shared by Pitino, allowed this to happen right under their noses. If Jurich cannot figure how to get one of his people to be eyes and ears in Basketball...can you imagine how much garbage is going on under Petrino with all those football players? My guess is that Jurich has no trust at all for Petrino and has his own spies everywhere in that program.

Bottom line....pressure is going to mount and it may take a push from the legislature to get UofL to heal itself.

I have a complete list of Louisville wrongdoings that I got from Tom Jurich this morning.

1. Caring just too much for the community since 2000
2. not being able to give even more mustard on their hot dogs at the yum
3. Making the players stop bible study so they can go to sleep and dream about gummy bears and rainbows.
4. taking in too many strays and not leaving any for others.
5. Donating too much to Charity.... and Electra.. and Too Tall

When you post who rather than will Pitino step down, I realize you're trying to imply it's a foregone conclusion. But, it's not. Pitino got away with having sex in a restaurant. They hired Petrino after a scandal. Louisville truly values winning that much.

There's a chance he winds up out. But, I wouldn't put money on it.
Ramsey, Jurich and Pitino are all gone. The Board of Trustees have to clean house to restore respectability and integrity to the Institution. This has too many implications to the revenue streams to UL for the three to survive.

TGIF....I wonder if thei
I don't think that would've happened. While it's hard to guess what a different future would look like, I've always thought Coach Pitino would've been more successful than Coach K if he had stayed at UK. In fact, I've always thought we would be much closer to UCLA in titles, too.

Coach Pitino at UK and Rick at UL have always been different people to me and they always will be. I just hope BBN will welcome Coach Pitino when he finally does retire. This is his home, not UL.

The game has changed. Pitino's model of coaching and success was very much a product of the past. He is known to not play freshman, and hates to. He wants kids to come in and learn the system first, learn good D, and then by the time they hit soph, junior year, they are ready to set foot on the floor.

This day and age, kids don't want to ride the bench for two years before seeing the floor. His system is usually difficult for new kids to learn in a short time. Cal seems to work with what he has. Whereas Rick seems to jam fit everyone into his system.

Terry Meiners didn't "come out swinging". These two guys have dinner at each others houses. They are friends and have been for years. Rick knew exactly what he told Terry to ask him about and already had his act planned out. This was no different than any other skit that Terry has put on the radio over the years. This may have been one of the funniest though.

As bkocats said, Rick wasn't telling Terry or the fans that he wasn't going to resign, he was telling the ul admin. When he said he would leave if asked, he meant, "if you give me the money left on my contract I'll gladly go".

I say that Rick is an idiot, but I know he's not actually one. He knows that you don't need to fool all of the people all of the time, some of the people some of the time is plenty enough to get you rich.

Should send this to the editor at the CJ Eric. Pretty much sums up the culture that permeates UL since Jurich has been there. My daughter will soon be college age and she wanted to go to UL. I can't in good conscious let her go through with that. Women are obviously 2nd class citizens on that campus.

It blows my mind how they've now done a 180 on their logic regarding Pitino vs what they've said about Cal. 'Where there's smoke theres fire', 'the coach is responsible', 'how could he not have known', and other ironic statements. Hopefully, at some point, the good people who work at UL or are boosters will say 'enough is enough'.

Here is some of the things UL fans are saying AFTER Lyle and a former player basically confirmed what happened in the book:

I live in Louisville and have always been a Kentucky fan. I was just lead in the right direction. But as a rival fan we always give each other crap and trash talk. But this is beyond embarrassing for this city. This is beyond sports and the entire university should be completely ashamed. The way women have been treated there is disgraceful and in a time where these issues are in the forefront of society because of multiple athletes abusing women and finally having to own up to it and pay the price. Meanwhile, the staff at UofL have clearly laughed at any notion that they will be a part of the solution and have stuck their noses in the air, pounded their chests like cave men while changing nothing and protecting those that have offended women, even physically.

This quote says it all:
“Sometimes you get a hostility to the message,” she says, and her trip to Louisville was one of those times. Redmond Brown remembers “laughing and snickers and shouting out that you normally don’t see.”

When you have a coach who has to put 'treat women with respect' as one of their rules, you know something is wrong there. That shouldn't even need to be taught to 18-22 year old men. I bet Stoops doesn't need to write that on the wall for all to see. Because he recruits guys with the integrity to know that is a given.

I was thinking the same thing. It's so easy for people to believe that Meiners was tough (at least initially) on Rick, but it's no different than Forde dropping the news late on a Friday: Subtle manipulation of the situation.

Meiners "punches" Pitino in the mouth, Pitino responds strongly and authoritatively, rallies the troops (UL fans) to put pressure on the administration not to get any funny ideas about forced resignations.

Once no longer enrolled at a member institution...they are not compelled to talk (see duke). Unless they want to take down the program.
This is where all of the legal stuff gets interesting.
Let's say. NCAA says cannot get eveidence and drops it. But then local, state and federal authorities get the ex players to sing. I bet NCAA would Just say oops

Three takeaways from the Pitino interview with Meiners:

1.) Rick is very unhappy that Ramsey endorsed Jurich but not him.
2.) Rick will not quit but will pack his bags if Jurich or Ramsey ask. Translation: Quit and there is no contract buyout. Rick will leave only if he gets some of the millions (left on his contract) to do so.
3.) Rick talked to Andre McGee who admitted to some things that Pitino is upset about but they were not things in the book. Rick now has to share that conversation with the NCAA or else.

he also said that he had players that came to play for HIM
well now that is not very L1C4[roll]

You guys laugh, but one thing not mentioned is what if Tom Turtleneck bolts for Texas. He is the only reason Pitino is still there. If he goes to Texas, Pitino isn't long for Lousiville. I would hate for them to go get Sean Miller, but that's who they would shoot for.

not sure where the other thread went regarding Pitino on Terry Meiner's show; but one that was said he made is that he thought it was cowardly to resign in the midst of all this. It occurred to me last night that he wasn't telling the fans that; he was telling the UofL administration that he wasn't going to step down and did it publically so they can't force him to resign. The last statement Brian lists here kind of confirms my theory - he's saying they'll have to fire him.

Could be wrong. While I do admittedly enjoy this because of certain fans and their coach - there are those I feel badly for. If you will give me some time I might even come up with names.

If this statement came from a coach with integrity I may be inclined to believe it, but how many times has Pitino said something only to directly contradict himself? I could see him finding a way to turn his retirement into I'm so great and doing this for my family and the University. As long as it fed his ego he could change his mind.

Rick's is Lance's twin, no doubt. I know that...which is why I'm questioning myself. Rick really sounded stunned about this mess on Meiner's show today.

Pitino and Jurich knew this was out there a month ago. I'm 100% positive about that. That's why I couldn't believe Pitino's dumb *** reaction when he acted like all of this was new to him. UK fans give Pitino, Jurich and UL in general a lot of hell on this board but I'm telling you they deserve every bit of it. They've done a lot of bad things over the years and got away with it. Not this time.

Over the past several days I have been laughing just as hard as anyone. Mostly my satisfaction is coming from knowing UofL fans are wallowing in their own tears and double talk over the years..."we do things the right way".

I believe Meiner's came out firing yesterday and as I sat there listening to Rick talk the more I felt sorry for him. I really did. Here's a hall of fame coach that we adored that brought our program that we love back from sanctions itself. We were so proud again and ended up adoring the man that was our coach that we ended up hating him for awhile because he left our program. Admittedly, we all would have done the same thing if that type of money and opportunity presented itself.

Then we hated him again for shacking up with our arch rival. Another slap in the face. But, most of us got over that years ago because it made this rivalry even better.

However, I truly felt bad for the guy yesterday. If he knew it shame on him. If he didn't then he should of. But, Andre Magee completely back stabbed his friend/coach/mentor if he played rogue agent and did this on his own (with someone else's money). Again, I can't but feel for Rick right now. I believe Ramsey wants to completely pull the trigger and throw Rick under the bus. For the time being Jurich is holding the wolves at bay. There's only so much heat Tom is going to be able to withstand without putting his job in jeopardy (which it should be anyway).

Lastly, with all that said...here's a big middle finger for all those obnoxious UofL fans who are first to throw their successes of their program in our faces. LOL!

Pitino is an egotistical jerk, always has been. When he is your coach it is easier to take, his act was wearing thin with me and a lot of other fans I was glad he got the program back up but I didn't cry when he left
