The more ESPN talks, the more I think we have claim of defamtion. The media gets certain protection against public figures, but they cannot just spew with reckless disregard for the truth.

Deener's desire to cast this in a favorable light really shines through in that interview. Some of the questions he asked, Barr could only say "uhh, yeah, you could make that argument." Like when Deener said, "To me, girls and loud music in a dorm room is pretty common stuff." Kinda depends on what they are doing, Drew. And then I've heard both Deener and especially Maybin make the point about why didn't they interview Russ Smith? One, if the idea is to somehow counter what Katina said about Smith, the point of Barr's reporting isn't to rehabilitate Smith's image. That's completely peripheral, and only someone who is worried about Smith's image, like a UofL fan, would be incredulous on the point. Two, if the idea is to counter what Katina says generally, as in Russ says she's a liar which puts everything she says in doubt and why don't you report that ESPN, huh??!! Cause you've got an agenda, that's why!!
What they don't get is in a situation like this, many people will say she's lying - to avoid the mess, to protect themselves, to protect the school, or after being talked to rather sternly about how we treat this kind of thing, if you know what I mean Russ. So someone denying it isn't a story. If they talk to 10 people, and 7 say it didn't happen but 3 say it did, and the investigation supports the 3, a reporter isn't going to put on camera the other 7 and say "and now for an opposing view......."
The wild and imaginative conspiracy theories put forth in that thread are real X Files type stuff. They literally think UK, IU and any number of other programs are behind all of this.
It's like us beating them 8 out of the last 9 times isn't enough, we have to set up an elaborate Hooker-Gate scandal...for whatever reasons.
It is crazy looking back at the Blakeney recruitment. He committed to Louisville immediately after his visit only to de-commit a few weeks later, saying he committed for "the wrong reasons." I mean, who the hell could have ever imagined that those "wrong reasons" were Louisville hiring hookers for recruits and that Blakeney would play a huge role in bringing them down. All the while, Louisville fans were having to watch UK dominate the landscape with their only retort being "hang those banners with velcro because they are coming down." And now...wow. You literally couldn't make this stuff up.
It's almost funny re timing of Blakeny's decisions now. It's literally mind-blowing and for someone who lives out of state it's embarrassing for state of Kentucky even if it is UL. It's not just an infraction, it's a sleazy infraction! Down here they understand how big money recruiting was rampant and still happens some. But not just prostitutes, sleazy ones writing a damn book about that gets national press.

Cannot the idiots conclude that if 3-5 people have verified the facts in the book that the NCAA can conclude the 22 parties took place over the four year period. Also, do they just want to ignore the money trail that another party was held by another UL staff member after McGee left.

The NCAA needs to get their letter to UL so UL does not drag out the process with appeals to make them eligible for next years NCAAT. It gets me how all the talking heads at ESPN keep saying that you should not punish the current players at UL because they had nothing to do with the scandal. What makes them think that they were not involved? At least 2 freshmen on other teams that were recruited by UL have admitted that it happened. It would be reasonable to believe that the freshmen on this years team also were treated to the same perks. This had gone on for four years so realistically, all of the players at UL this year could have received the same "perks" including the seniors. No current players involved LOL.

another coach would already been fired. imagine the hell uk and coach cal would be in if cal knocked up a woman on a pizza hut table, paid for the abortion, had an asst coach marry her, than take her to court. then have strippers and whores for four year, one during our championship year. i hope the ncaa stomps the crap out of ul. at least as bad as what they did to us in the 80's for a whole lot less.
