What can we do to stop being hosed?

at this point, i feel like a pro wresting fan that just realized it's fake. i feel like i'm done with it, but i know i'll end up watching again anyway, but my level of interest in SEC sports just took a huge hit. I will never again pay to go to a conference tournament. I will never purchase season tix again. And the worst is that my coaches and AD are in on it.They have accepted that it is our role as long as we get the revenue-sharing paycheck.

If you were AD, what would be your long-term plan to stop this? Is there a realistic chance of anything changing this?

I'd be tempted to go nuclear, cuss out live on TV, but that probably wouldn't help.

Get to the final next year, then decline to play? State that it's rigged, and not given proper weight by the committee anyway? Lots of downside here, but hits the league in the only place that hurts, the wallet.

Some other symbolic statement? walk off the court/field before the game is over?

Something more subtle, like 'accidently' screwing up getting the refs out of town, leaving them stranded in the midst of an angry mob? Offhandedly remark to Slive or whoever what a shame it would be if after the next hosejob, his home address 'accidently' appeared on the web? Intentionally hurting the players of the protected teams?

But, i think one thing that HAS to be done, is to be prepared to leave the conference. One of my very few rules in life has for awhile now been "always be willing to walk away". It's served me well, and I think as long as the league knows we're going to just take whatever **** they heap on us, then it's never going to stop. I love the SEC, but if my choices are only a rigged SEC or no SEC, i'd rather leave. Right now, i don't think that's possible, as we are dependent on the revenue too much. Plus, the fanbase would need to be prepared for such a bold move, several years in advance. Start saying now, that we don't feel we are treated as equals within the conference, and may have to start exploring other options.

I also think if we had made a bigger scene out of being robbed in the KY game in mid-season, we would have taken some heat for it, but we wouldn't have been robbed again yesterday.

too much fun in the entire post. i feel ya.

how about win all the regular season games... then start (and play) only the walk-ons (not the varnado-walkons) in the conference tournament. in the post game, when the media asks why we played the walk ons when it clearly cost us the win versus S. Carolina by 50, we say "well, we understand the history of this tournament to be slightly skewed, therefore, we wanted to give it the proper attention"

Yes, lets walk!

Lets play as an independent!! Or CUSA member. Perhaps the Summit League will take us since Centenary is leaving. Or the Sun Belt would be a great fit.

What a total mind17.

Maybe you should follow one of your few rules in life and walk away from your computer. On second thought, stay right wear you are you are a wealth of entertainment.

I'm much more pissed about Florida getting in over us than losing to UK. That I don't understand.

But I enjoyed the post.

Indeed, a good post, and I agree with todd. Florida getting a 10 seed and us not getting in to me proves that they didn't consider the SEC tournament in the slightest. I kinda like the idea of next year: hopefully we get #1 seed in west and are not a bubble team, but in the tournament. Then play 0 starters in our first game which will be the quarter finals. And we will get crushed. But then have Stans interviewed afterward and just explain how it was proven the last couple of years that the SEC tournament means absolutely nothing to the committee, so we figured we'd just rest our players... or something to that effect.

If they come in our gym and make bad calls, and get peppered with water bottles, etc one of two things will happen:

1. They will fear for their lives if they do not call a game properly, or in our favor.
2. They will quit their job and the SEC will have to hire someone competent.

is to be one of the big schools with a 100,000 seat stadium and a huge alumni/fan base. It is that simple.

...but this brings the bigger point that may have already been discussed ad nauseum here, so I apologize in advance.

Why is there so much talk of getting hosed? We didn't get hosed. You want to know how to stop being hosed? Play a better schedule and stop losing games in November/December.

.......but why would our continual seeding hosejob (2 seed despite being #2 in nation, playing Texas in Dallas despite being higher seed, Butler, etc.) end?

and if we did, does no one else expect the committee to just justify passing us over for another team based on total wins?

is it a lack of respect from the committee only, a national lack of respect reflected by the committee, or our conference reps not fighting for us?

100,000 seat stadium filled every weekend and a waiting list to get season tickets which translates into stroke with the television networks and the rest of the ncaa. Examples would be tenn., florida, alabama, texas, notredame, michigan, etc.

i guess you missed my point, that Minnesota and Utah State do not have 100,000 seat stadiums, in fact they have smaller stadiums than us, yet they're in and we're out, despite a better case. are you saying that with a 100,000 seat stadium, we wouldn't get screwed over by these smaller teams, but we'd still get screwed over for the big boys? or that with a 100,000 seat stadium, we'd be treated like Kentucky?

besides, we have the all-time shot blocker. that's got to be seen as some kind of TV draw. yet the committee obviously didn't care.

Do not embarrass Slive/SEC on national TV anymore. Probably payback from Slive. Even though he's not on the committee, don't you think he got some calls?

..and giving out addresses and phone numbers will make them like MState. How about we just firebomb the conference room during next summer's meetings in Destin?</p>
