at this point, i feel like a pro wresting fan that just realized it's fake. i feel like i'm done with it, but i know i'll end up watching again anyway, but my level of interest in SEC sports just took a huge hit. I will never again pay to go to a conference tournament. I will never purchase season tix again. And the worst is that my coaches and AD are in on it.They have accepted that it is our role as long as we get the revenue-sharing paycheck.
If you were AD, what would be your long-term plan to stop this? Is there a realistic chance of anything changing this?
I'd be tempted to go nuclear, cuss out live on TV, but that probably wouldn't help.
Get to the final next year, then decline to play? State that it's rigged, and not given proper weight by the committee anyway? Lots of downside here, but hits the league in the only place that hurts, the wallet.
Some other symbolic statement? walk off the court/field before the game is over?
Something more subtle, like 'accidently' screwing up getting the refs out of town, leaving them stranded in the midst of an angry mob? Offhandedly remark to Slive or whoever what a shame it would be if after the next hosejob, his home address 'accidently' appeared on the web? Intentionally hurting the players of the protected teams?
But, i think one thing that HAS to be done, is to be prepared to leave the conference. One of my very few rules in life has for awhile now been "always be willing to walk away". It's served me well, and I think as long as the league knows we're going to just take whatever **** they heap on us, then it's never going to stop. I love the SEC, but if my choices are only a rigged SEC or no SEC, i'd rather leave. Right now, i don't think that's possible, as we are dependent on the revenue too much. Plus, the fanbase would need to be prepared for such a bold move, several years in advance. Start saying now, that we don't feel we are treated as equals within the conference, and may have to start exploring other options.
I also think if we had made a bigger scene out of being robbed in the KY game in mid-season, we would have taken some heat for it, but we wouldn't have been robbed again yesterday.
