And now depression sets in. What a great season it was and before we know it, August if 2019 will be here. But for now we reflect.

Congrats to the Ramblers, Roadrunners, Trojans, Hilltoppers, Knights, Sages, Falcons and Cardinals for being the best in their class this season.

Also congrats to the Crusaders, North Stars, Warriors, Broncos, Irish, Tigers, Trojans and Panthers for making it there.

Now without further discussion......

1 - That a Bundy, though he didn’t score 4 touchdowns, won a state title.
2 - That the run to a state title for Loyola was as impressive as any. Guess Holecek can coach after all.
3 - That no one is unbeatable.
4 - That the men on the Hill are back.
5 - That the historic run by my Blue Devils was as much fun to watch as any football I’ve ever been a part of.
6 - That the FVC needs to be mentioned among the top conferences in the state.
7 - That regardless of who played whom, it’s tough as hell to make it to the state finals or even the semis.
8 - That the new rules for JV football in 2019 will go a step closer to killing our game.
9 - That I loved watching Michael Love. Not so much during the game, but his raw and true emotions after. Bright world for that kid ahead.
10 - That we are truly blessed to have a forum to agree to disagree.

See everyone on opening night 2019!

Just curious....what are the new rules for JV football? I'm surprised they still play JV games.

Still learning details but from what I know if you play in the JV game you can’t participate in the Varsity game. JV rosters can be made up of anyone who doesn’t play Varsity I guess.

That you can get blown out in 3 (by a combined score of 133-26) of your 4 losses and still win a state championship.

That as a long-time fan, you can still be surprised by the results and achievements of 15-18 year-olds, who completely buy into the team concept and a never-say-die mentality.

That the grit and will of HS football players to overcome injuries (IC's Kyle Franklin, JCA's Keenan Hailey, Naz' JJ McCarthy, Rice's John Bean etc. etc.) in winning and losing efforts can be very inspiring.

That teams do improve throughout the year and at different rates, even when the alleged "experts" want to mitigate or downplay said improvement.

That it feels good to light the light again after Week 14, especially when it's so unexpected.

Seriously, congrats to JCA for doing the unthinkable. Reading, listening to numerous radio broadcasts, and wrap up shows, one would never have a given a chance of a championship coming to Joliet Catholic this year. For that your fan base should be proud. Now if you could humble the announcer at LWE and show him the hype should come from the players and their play, that would be appreciated also. Go Hilltoppers.

13. That at the end of each season, parents of football players everywhere let out a sigh of relief that their kids are healthy and safe. This is a hard and unforgiving game that we all love.

My youngest wrapped up his senior season and will not be playing in college. I was blessed to have 2 sons play since 2nd grade through HS and I couldn’t be more proud of them. Not sure how I’m going to spend all this free time next year. I’m sure I will still go to watch the home games and support the local HS team but it will certainly feel different and I’m not sure exactly how.

Great Post!

That there are small moments and stories in football that make us very humble about this game we love.:)

I learned, from an MC standpoint, there is football life after Coach Lenti. It was a stressful off season for the players and staff. Lot of media and watchful eyes over them starting in January of this year. Very proud of Coach Lynch and the entire staff, but especially the players who handled the coaching change like professionals, learning a brand new offense after three seasons of running the veer, and finishing 11-2 and being State semifinalists. Another great season MC and looking forward too many more. Going to be a great year next season in the new blue! Have a great off season everyone!

And 1 play will constitute playing in the game. The next day, no physical activity. No lifting, no running nothing. So if your a back up in a tight game, the starter comes out for one play for whatever reason you are ineligible for the JV game on Saturday. That would be the extent of your playing time for the week. Another nail in the coffin of the game we all love.

That is not true for any chicagoland public school conference south of I-55 or the WSC.
Chicagoland public Hs are way different than public HS in suburbs. Most Chicagoland public HS struggle to field a varsity team let alone a JV.Without sophomore teams some Hs will have 100 to 125 man rosters at varsity on the sidelines on Friday night!Just Crazy!!

I’m sure we will know by Jan 1 because of all the crossover games of week 1 and 2.Bottom line is if it happens all over, the big schools will struggle with no sophomores, trying to find playing time.

All you have to do is check il.8to18.com and look at next seasons schedule. Majority of schools have them up.

If without a sophomore team you have a 125 man roster, you have enough kids for a sophomore team and are doing a disservice to your program by not having one. If you are a school with under 60 kids with all three classes combined, I understand the need for Soph-Senior JV.

Agree with you 100 percent!!What I’m hearing is schools that had sophomore teams ended up playing half their games against JV teams,I think you are going to loose kids in this sport going from freshman to JV.Play time on Jv will go to seniors and juniors over the sophomores. So essentially soph will sit a yr.My oldest played Jv his junior and it was tough to watch bad football.Sat 9am

Providence beat who they should have beat and lost to who they should have lost to. PC will have a strong year next year but things start to get lean after that. And that 5-4 isn’t going to work anymore unless you are JCA who proved they were a true contender at 5-4.

Being a South Suburb/Saint Laurence/Illini 8(Joliet Catholic & Marian Catholic even after the conference disbanded)/Sica/Evergreen Park(even after leaving Sica)Guy.I recall the 70's & 80's were almost all those schools completely had A & B(even Argo) Frosh teams plus played 3,4,5 JV games a year!! Man how times have changed

that rankings and opinions don't matter..........what matter's in the end are the games and the results which in the end solves the argument for us ! The banter that we adults think matter and express with all seriousness ......doesn't mean a thing when the whistle blows and the game starts! Another great year gone in a blink of an eye ! Can"t wait till next year .....and to start it all up again !
