Well it has been a long - I don’t know how many months because I suck at math.

Football is back so let’s go!

1 - That a loss week one doesn’t mean your team sucks. And a win doesn’t mean your team is destined for a state title.

2 - No 500 for Barrington as Warren finally got them.

3 - That this ride up North was better than last rides up north for ESL

4 - That theirs a two headed green monster in Hitter Land that’s scary.

5 - That the rivalry game between Carmel and Libertyville should be played to start each season - what a beauty week 1.

6 - That quietly, LWE did LWE things week 1.

7 - That at some point scoring over 90 points when it’s clear the other team isn’t very good isn’t football, it’s just dumb.

8 - That I have a whole new appreciation for football officials, now that I am one.

9 - That though it’s week one, Cary and PR are on yet another collision course.

10 - That even though their football program was on the verge of extinction, Hinsdale Central is alive and well.

That’s all for a crazy-fun week 1.

Newt, your analysis of HS football in your weekly post is spot on and I am reluctant to take issue with your thoughts on the prior week.
Nonetheless, Hinsdale Central football was never on the verge of extinction.

You mean the vote by the school board to shelve the program, the coach leaving, and then not having a coach when it was decided that they would play the season didn’t give you pause? It likely wasn’t gonna happen, but for all the rumors of its potential demise, for them to beat a highly touted Naperville Central team week one speaks volumes

3A schools scheduling 5A quarterfinalists don't always get a good game week 1...Somehow the big 6A school week 2 doesn't look so intimidating anymore either...Wilmo was forced to go big with opponents...32-0 win over Evergreen Park, while Oak Lawn Community lost 63-7.

And I have a different perspective on the Peoria blowout...If both schools have third strings, and both 3rd strings are on the field, the scoreboard might be ugly but give those third stringers time to play. Is the goal in these games giving all the kids time to play, or somebody's pride? If you are one of those monster schools with a V/JV/JJV/SA/SB/FA/FB, and all the kids get to play every week on some level, okay, let the lower levels play in the lower games. But if you are the smaller school that's straight V/S/F, give the bench time to play...Those kids practice every night too, let them have some time under the lights. Those parents deserve some video too...

6 of the Sun Times Top 10 all lost, including the #1 and #2 for what has to be the first time ever in week 1. Only ranking that matters is the final one.

With the new participation rules its tough if theres games the next day or earlier in the day.

Lemont v SCE
"The caliber of opponent that we played tonight was huge," said Farquhar. "We're lucky to come out of here with a win."

ESL v Batavia
Batavia coach Dennis Piron said the Flyers and the 2018 Nazareth team that defeated Batavia in last year's semifinals "are two of the finest football teams I've ever coached against in three decades. I don't think that's an exaggeration. But I feel you'd better be able to step up against that because we have some pretty big goals ourselves and we have to get better. I think this team will get better Week 1 to Week 2 to Week 3."

Size does not matter in HS football most players are average size. Its how you play as a team.Example I watched a very below average LB in HS who was was huge and now he’s starting LB in Top 5 college.Size is for colleges
Unless you play ESL.. Every position big, strong and quick.. They look like a D-1 team out there..

Key word “look”
Let’s not lose are head here. Are they the next Alabama? LMAO.
They have more offers than LWE V’18. And Alabama offers to boot.

If this team does not run the table and win 5A, leaving a trail of destruction, then it gets the aforementioned squad off the hook. So run with it.

Fair enough.
