Another crazy week this past week which reaffirms why we love HS football so much.

1 - That kicking or punting the ball to Cole Tucker is not a good idea.
2 - That Maine South is no fluke - just ask Loyola.
3 - That maybe, just maybe Loyola isn't invincible. Maybe.
4 - That the "It ain't over till it's over," Award is shared by Waubonsie and Batavia this week.
5 - That the East Side is flying again - Jeff Thomas woof!
6 - That Prairie Ridge may have just won the FVC and we are only 2 weeks in.
7 - That the Warren Freshmen are ready to challenge the Bartlett freshmen - 2-0, outscorrd first two teams 89-0.
8 - That IC is damn good - really damn good.
9 - That the Brother Rice offense myth be the best they've ever had.
10 - That Grayslake North has emerged as heavy favorite in new Northern LC Conf.

Those are my thoughts. Bring em on!

The Southland Conference (3 Richs, C-M, KKK and Bloom) went 0-6 in Week 2 to the tune of giving up 43.8 ppg. Granted, 2 teams played up scheduling 2 CCL Blue opponents, but still ...

Well, I just officiated the Warren Freshman. If you beat New Trier 40-0 you're doing something right,...

We learned ESL is more than Jeff Thomas who had big catches but just 40 yards last week against a D1 caliber secondary that CBC put on the field. It was the Oline and "their" running backs who won the day.

That Bolingbrook with 3549 students can be held to one offensive touchdown in regulation by Bishop Mac, a school that has 315 students, key player injuries, and a 34-0 loss on its resume to a school of only 300 students.

QB, but I'm hearing multiple spots up for grabs this week. Fenwick and BR will be telling.

#11 - that defense(s) in this state, is a very lost art. most of the games and scores I saw were astonishing to me. it was literally like watching 7 on 7's. this has got to be the worst year for school defenses across Illinois.

Long ago I heard something that most coaches would still most likely agree upon: "It is harder to coach defense." I think changes in the offensive game have made that even more true today. You basically have a handful of base defenses from which to choose, but offensively the possibilities are endless.

I agree with you. well I think it is a little easier for oc's to find weaknesses in defenses today. as opposed the dc's finding ways to stop it. you have to be deep in a lot of areas.

There are less and less guys playing both ways and the coaches are putting their better players on offense and sacrificing some defense....IMHO

Smalling at Rice had an huge interception in the state playoff game last year as guys will go both ways more in the playoffs. Weisher at Marist I think played some productive defensive end his senior year in playoffs.

Hopefully you are right! Offense looked stagnant until new quarterback Morrissey came in during the 3rd period. I understand that the starter Norgle had back spasm during the week leading up to the game, hence his inaccurate throws. Will Smith looked really good and it will be great if Walker can play this week. The offense started rolling when they initiated a two back or three back set which opened some holes for Smith. Defense looked okay and made key stops when they had to but they need to tighten up earlier in the game.

Daily Herald reported QB Norgle out with broken finger. That means Morrissey starts but I don't know who our backup would be?? Orlando or MCHS has a baseball pitcher on the roster who can really throw but no QB experience.

I think hold out Walker one more game due to Friday likely being a wet field. Start him against BR. Don't want to lose him for the season.

Not to take anything away from BMac but that offense has been holding itself to 1 TD. I was more impressed by the 14 points they put up.

How could this be? I thought the Brook had the greatest offensive mind of the 21st century running the offense over there now!?

Changes in Head Coaching can have a big affect on a program....looks like a VERY long season at St Francis.

The offense can be really good. If im not mistaken this is the OC's 1st time calling varsity plays. I think we can afford them some time to get it together.

Aren't the Bartlett freshman in their 30's now ?

I was on that hallowed Bartlett freshman team.

yes - mid thirties, put on weight (not the good kind) and graying. But I can still play!! (only for 5 minutes... then I need my lounge chair and a beer)

Kids don't know how to tackle like they used to. My hypothesis is less contact days during the summer and in practices due to effort to reduce concussions. This contributes (in part) to bigger scores IMO. Does my theory hold water?

Agree with you IMHO.

Also - would like to add that I am not a fan of "Pro Pad" practices. Difficult to stop the enthusiasm of 15,16,17,18 year old kids and they feel "protected" with their helmets and shoulder pads on. When people inevitably "go to the ground" via blocking OR too aggressive tackling - helmets hit knees and legs and that leads to trouble that could have been avoided by having the frikkin knee pads on!!

Helmets only OR Full Pads. Don't like the middle ground....let's not be "half pregnant"

Those Bartlett freshman were seniors in 2008, how are they mid thirties?

That Crete Monee has a very solid team - granted if they had a little more depth they'd be vying for the 6A title. Still can happen but they have to stay healthy.

I think Orlando is the back QB but could be wrong. He looked okay at QB last year on the Soph team but I like him better as a running quarterback rather than a passer. He has talent though and would be okay if put in. Don't know about the baseball pitcher without experience. If anything happens to Morrissey and Orlando then we have a big problem. Time maybe for your wildcat idea with West at QB. LOL

USD,

WADR he can teach the kids the system but he can't force their performance. I've seen a number of TD's called back because of receivers lining up on or off the line resulting in penalties in week 1. Add to that at least two passes dropped that were easy TD's in week 2. The boys will figure it out and when they do it could get very interesting. In the meantime enjoy your season...if you can.

How could this be? I thought the Brook had the greatest offensive mind of the 21st century running the offense over there now!?
