Thanks to everyone that posted last week! One third of the way through and lots to talk about.

1 - That the best team in the state will be decided the weekend of the state finals.
2 - That Huntley had a little to say about the best of the FVC race.
3 - That injured players and sloppy field accusations aside, the NV-ESL game was a classic.
4 - That Stevenson, Maine South and LZ got their ships righted for one week at least.
5 - That the streak of a bad kind is finally over at Glenbard North and at Lockport.
6 - That it doesn’t seem to matter who plays QB for Loyola - they just win anyway.
7 - That the new stadium at MC looked sweet on TV and even better with No. 1 behind center.
8 - That regardless of who plays QB, Maine South will be just fine.
9 - That the 100 year flood thing is just a myth - Warren field can attest to that.
10 - That Barrington and Hersey appears to be the best of the MSL thus far. Meadows and HE might have something to say about that.

On to week 4.

That I spent 34 minutes this morning catching up on a thread about the ESL @ NV game and not once did I read anything about the actual game.

Lol Caravan8.

I think both teams are very good. I don’t believe either of them are the best in the state. You don’t give up 48-50 points and be considered the best. I can’t remember these programs giving up that many points in a game. MC, Loyola, LWE, GBW? I may have missed a few others.

I think Prospect has something to say about the East as well. That should be an exciting conference race to watch. 3 very tough teams in Prospect, Meadows, and Hersey.

I think Hoffman Estates will finish 5th in the West. Not sold on them yet.

#11 that if Loyola seems to win no matter who plays QB and Maine South will be just fine regardless of QB then Maine South will seem to win and Loyola will be just fine.

This is general mathematics.

My bet is Hersey runs the table goes 9 and 0!

Hasn't an MSL team made it to the quarters or better each of the last 5 years? Schaumburg, Barrington, Prospect all with trips to the state finals.

Yah um I think they can compete there a little. But hey they aren't the Catholic League so theres that.

And then loses in the 2nd round of the playoffs because the MSL is not very competitive.
First two games where there toughest competition.I don’t have a horse in the race over there but they also have good core of young players with really good coach’s.

Super duper! I grew up with their head coach -Joe Pardun. He was a buddy of mine. He grew up in palatine. I never played PAFA with him - I think he was on the smaller teams. He went to fremd and played there. I played little league baseball / travel with him for years. Good guy.

How many state championships in the last 20 years for the MSL, Newt?

Prospect had 3 in the 2000’s. That’s excellent! Since the inception of the state championship series, there have been 5 total, I believe. Hersey and BG each have one in the 80’s, I believe. Not too shabby. It’s just been a while. 4 runner ups since the state championship was implemented.

CCL = 30 state titles (approx.) since inception of the state championship and 15 runner ups.

Buffalo Grove and Hersey won titles in 6A(largest class) in 86 & 87

You said they weren’t competitive. I want measuring championships just commenting on a statement I felt inaccurate.

After teasing us last year that Argo is back to being Argo.Wilmington could play in the South Suburban Red @ at least 6-3 make the playoffs,St.Laurence will make the Prep Bowl Playoffs,Oak Lawn is surprisingly not good but give Coach Harold time & Reavis will go 5-4 or 6-3 again. So far forfeits have been limited thank goodness.I can't wait to see what happens when Joliet Central/Joliet West/Romeoville all play each other. It's nice to see Marian Catholic winning again though in a watered down Conference. That I'll never figure out the CPS.Many schools have open weeks so why weren't they matched up vs each other???

That no one is talking about ESL junior QB, Tyler Macon, who is 40/63 with eight TD passes and two interceptions. (Running stats not available unless behind a paywall - but he had 70 last week, I believe.)

This comes on the heels of a sophomore campaign during which he threw for 2400 and ran for 1200.

From the 2nd half of week 2 and from week 3, I learned that Edwardsville isn't too bad. Not quite good yet, but not too bad though either. If they can fix the horrific secondary (not likely) and expand the play calling a bit on the offensive end (reasonably likely) , then they could actually end up being a good team by the time that the playoffs arrive and make a little noise. The running back Johnson is a year better and REALLY good.

I remember in the late 80s early 90s the msl dominated east side and the rest of Illinois. BG Hersey Palatine

I defer to the Gentleman on the masthead.

I should clarify, in media I’ve seen.
Media coverage of HS sports is down across the board (print coverage), but there’s plenty on here and other recruiting outlets. It seems like lately kids do a lot of their promotion on Twitter or Hudl or other outlets. We will never get back to the days of 150+ pages in the Saturday Sun-Times and 6-8 pages of HS sports coverage. It’s just not viable anymore.

Hersey will go 9-0 barring any major injuries. Prospect and Meadows are solid but not on the same level.

That would be wanting a conference having Argo,Rich South,Thornridge,Romeoville,Joliet Central & Joliet West
Unfortunately for the players, Thornridge stands at 0-3 scoring 6 points on the season while allowing 159. Rich South has the same record having yet to score while giving up 162. Note that these 6 were all games played against conference opponents - only 1 of which was Crete/Monee.
