A rather unusual week this past week as the real winner of games Friday was Mother Nature.....

1 - That schools will result to extreme measures to get rain delayed games in - box cutters anyone?
2 - That Week 4 was treacherous for top 10 teams
3 - That a seven-year losing streak made Libertyville mad - 42 points mad vs. Lake Forest
4 - That a Hurricane was blowing in Woodstock Friday and Wylie E. Coyote finally caught the Roadrunner
5 - That Rita is 0-4 - What?
6 - That Mundelein came back to earth after a 3-0 start
7 - That the rest of the 8A season needs to end so we can get HF-Loyola
8 - That the top teams in the MSL West and WSC Silver will make for some great games the next 5 weeks.
9 - That Phillips seems to be plodding its way through a DOS type hangover of a game vs.Julian
10 - That the DVC is well.....the DVC again.

Week 5 coming up

Oh and looking at the 70 to 40 score for the Vikings of St.Laurence that many schools don't play defense

Yea, Mundelein came back to earth, but they may yet pull an upset along the way.

Carmel doesn't look so bad when they aren't playing a top five/ten team.

You are right and it got worse and worse. I am making no excuses for the loss. They beat us. They outplayed us after the rain delay. My comment is not toward any team. It is what it is. However, again the field was dangerous for both teams.

As a parent, I would be concerned for ALL of the kids on a field if it is that poor out and the field is that bad.

Sounds like you're suggesting that the officials, and both head coaches, and both AD's weren't appropriately concerned about the health of the players?

I am not suggesting anything. I am making an observation based on what I saw. The boys would step down and the mud would go over into the sides of their shoes. Picture that as a football player.

That's not true.
You observed the conditions.
You suggested it was dangerous.

I know what you are saying completely. Others will tell Naz to stop making excuses though.

Sweetwalter,

I'd say it was pretty accurate this is the sideline posted by one on the MCC folks(from Saturday morning) and tweeted by Brian Bulaga where he says..."looks like that field could use some turf". The middle of the field was worse! As I said Friday night no excuses, MCC played a heck of a game!

Show me a football player who doesn't like playing in the mud and you are showing me a soccer player.

Better hope you don't get them up there in November.

I played in this game. I can't find footage of what the field looked like at the end. Although, I don't remember seeing much green.

Sloppy, yet splendid...

I know you may have not liked it, but high school football games have been played in these conditions for the last 100 years.

USD and others,

Again, MCC played a hell of a game, they were clearly the better team on the field this past Friday night after the 1.5hour rain delay, hats off to them. The pictures were posted to make a point to sweetwalter that dtlove was not incorrect or making anything up.

Regarding playing in mud, in today's world when Turf is cheaper and potentially safer(debatable), or at least a much higher grade surface would you continue to play on a field like this. Yes grass fields can be much better than turf but few can afford to support them.

And irrigation was developed thousands of years ago. Is Woodstock really that backwoods?

Dtlove denied he ever suggested conditions were dangerous.
I correctly told him, "That isn't true." (As he had suggested conditions were dangerous, in two separate posts, in fact.)
That's all.
No one's claiming it wasn't really muddy.

Conditions were dangerous but I am not going to have a debate with anyone about. Got to many other important things to do. Have a great night and enjoy the rest of the season.

I never denied anything. You attempted to get me to say that the officials, ADs and coaches weren't concern about the kids. That's not what I said. They made the decision based on what they felt. My statement was in my opinion, the conditions were dangerous. I am not taking anything away from MCC or making any excuses for Naz. MCC was the better team on that day. My comment was about the condition of the field and only the field.

Why it would be better frozen in november. I agree playing in it was the best. But as a spectator was able to tell it probably should have been postponed. It wasnt just that kids were losing footing they were falling backward head over heels and a few times getting helmet to helmet shots because of it. The grass at MCC is a complete home field advantage and they love it as they should. Before Friday, I think its been 1 time in 2.5-3 years since Naz played on a grass surface.
