Ok now you got me. All it takes is one Animal House reference and I am putty in your hands.

I don't consider it name calling by calling someone greedy. I look at it this way, everyone should fight for whatever they can get. In a free market society that's what it should be.

But when you fight under the guise of calling 9.9% increases in successive years a cost of living increase it doesn't spell out anything but greed.

I'm the son of a teacher. My dad taught for 33 years and went on strike once - for two days.

Where my issue was you don't need to name call me for giving my opinion. Sure I'm a wise mouth - always have been and I won't apologize for it. But this isn't meant to be some kind of personal attack or vendetta. Instead it's my view on a situation like a teachers strike.

And yes when teachers strike they walk off the job - essentially walking out on the kids. It's a harsh statement but it's true.

And trust me the school boards are no angels either. Especially here in Gurnee we got a couple of real special folk on our local school board.
You in D.50 or D.56?

I bet in most high school districts over half the staff couldn't tell you who the head coach is or what the team's record is. I know we all love football and hold it in a sacred place in our hearts, but please remember, this is only high school football. We are talking about sticking up for your rights as a worker and providing for yourself and your family.

The district staff might not know who the head coach is or what the team's record is but, since you are a betting person, how much would you care to bet that the teachers union leadership knows very well that football season is the best time strategically to strike. If you think that it is pure coincidence that the majority of high school teacher strikes in this state come during football season and, more specifically, in the weeks approaching the playoffs, you are kidding yourself.

I have long held this opinion, but it was an opinion formed from pure intuition. I have a teacher acquaintance at Lake Forest High School who is also a union leader. That teacher confirmed for me that their strike back in 2012 was specifically timed to coincide with the football season.

The head of the CTU said she was taking the possibility of a strike off the table until "late fall or early winter."

I don't think she meant that to coincide with hockey season.

And she has all of the sudden become a big Phillips fan.

Can you imagine if the CTU went out on strike after a few playoff rounds and Phillips were still in the hunt? Nah, they aren't thinking about that at all. They're thinking about sticking up for their rights as workers. The strategic timing of their strike has never entered into their heads. After all, they are the only ones who care about the kids...
