I was depressed. I thought, "Oh crap. Here we go again." And when Fla. crushed us, I thought we would be lucky to win 3 or 4 games. I am glad I was wrong. That light at the end of the tunnel was not a train. Go Cats!!

I was heartbroken while walking out of the stadium but I didn't give up like the majority.
Same thing I do now. How the hell did we lose to S. Miss and why was the end of the second quarter and entire second half so mismanaged.
That first half looked like us against Louisville and the 2nd half looked like us against UT and Florida. Crazy
That game was an amazing high and low. The first half our offense looked absolutely amazing and it made me extremely excited. We were simply dominant and we looked to have one of those 2007 type offenses that can score on every drive and on any play. Then the second half happened and it was bad and stayed that way.
Probably the worst part was realizing and seeing how bad our run defense was. Over 250 yards rushing.
This was disheartening. I wasn't off the wagon at this point, but I was very upset, especially knowing that we had so much talent there on offense. Then the Florida game and even the NMSU were very disheartening because of how poorly our run defense was. I mean, we gave up almost 730 yards rushing in just three games, almost 245 yards per game. And those were to three teams that weren't particularly great at running the ball. So, I had little hope that we'd turn it around and actually find a defense that can limit opposing defenses from running the ball.

Anger does not reflect the depth and disappointment that I experienced! Much of my angst was directed at Coach Stoops, although I was &(still am), a big Stoops supporter!

Well, while the TD just before halftime scared me a little bit I was still thinking about collecting my hundred dollars after the game.

I did not go negative but it took an effort on my part not to because I was so disappointed /mad at our dual personality as a team after Southern Miss.. I resigned myself to holding my worst criticism till after the season fully expecting another failure. I felt like we wouldn't win a SEC game. Slowly this team revived my belief to the point I was happy we were going back to a bowl but still mad/disappointed we qualified by beating a hapless and no-win Austin Peay. Glad we were going to a bowl but bitterly disappointed we lost the game (Southern Miss) that would have made my prediction of 7 wins correct. I did not realize Barker was seriously hurt and how much this team grew up over the season, how much better they had gotten because I didn't realize how good the teams they were beating actually were. My hat is off to Mark Stoops, this staff, and these players, they persevered when I was dwelling on the past, they believed in themselves when my belief was teetering on the edge of forsaken support. This old man was reminded of what sports are really about by those young men who did not give up. We---I--- should be thankful for that humbling lesson.
This season in my eyes was a reminder of the season under Brooks where we got beat by LSU real bad.
I believe the score was 49-0 and the year was 2006. People wher calling for Brooks head on a plate. After that Brooks and crew pulled it together and had a pretty good year . the next year 2007 KY beat the number 1 team at home and was ranked in the top 25 during 2007. also we had a chance to beat Tenn, but lost 52 -50. The problem was that KY couldnt substain the momentium.
Like 2007 I hope this years record and the win over LOUISVILLE can propel us to a bowl victory and a very good record next year, and the years to come

I felt mad and cheated because of all of the money had been pouring into the athletic department.

I think the 07 team went conservative after the LSU win and started playing not to lose. The one year between the loss to LSU in 06 and thru the win over LSU in 07 was Well Coached and well played to win.
I will admit it - I had enough. I thought this staff was finished.

Yes. We were #8 two times. Once before SC (loss) and then again before Florida (loss).
I completely lost all hope and gave up on UK football for the first time in my entire life. And I am an old dude. Went out the next day and bought WKU season tickets online so I could have a team to enjoy this Fall. Ended up skipping out on most of those WKU games to come back to my true love.
For a few days after that loss, I felt like I had caught my wife in bed with another man and alternated between wanting to kill her and never wanting to see her again.

I for one jumped off the wagon, made a bunch of jackass posts, and then reaffirmed my posts during the Florida debacle and NMSt because that was about as ugly a win as I've seen. Then I proceeded to look like a jackass as the team went 7-3 with SJ. I will be as big a jackass as needed if that means we go 9-3 next year.
I think with Stoops, he has been learning on the job but is getting himself established. This season he has certainly seemed the most comfortable. Another facet has been personnel and that has improved each season.....both staffing and players. There have been ups and downs, highs and lows, yadda yadda, but the guy clearly knows football. The sailing hasn't always been smooth, but I like the guy and want him to work out for the long term and be "our guy." Hard nosed, bring your lunch pail, grind it out no b.s. football. I like it.

But what if we had won that game AND the Georgia game? That would have changed the bowl scenario.
At the end of 3 it was a 3 pt game.
I don't know why anyone would leave under those circumstances, barring emergency.
When Southern Miss beat us, I thought almost the same things that I think now. I said at the time that I didn't expect to beat Southern Miss. I didn't know we would beat Missouri or Louisville, but I believed we had a talented young team that would keep getting better with experience. I have not been surprised by Bennie Snell. For me, the biggest surprise has been the improvement in our defensive line, especially Pringle, Bell. I expected Middleton to be good, but I wasn't sure we had enough defensive linemen to improve as much as we have. Defensive improvement upfront was a big reason why we beat Louisville. I still expect our football team to be much better still in 2017.
I wasn't ready to jump off the bridge but I was leaning heavily over the side. The one thought that kept me going was I had seen other good teams get scalped right out of the box by a chump team, and then go on to have a really good season. The fact that big turnaround are possible kept me going a little longer but admittedly I did take part in the discussions over potential replacements for CMS, though I did not favor any mid season moves.

I thought our run defense was as bad as I've ever seen at UK. Offensively, I was OK with our performance, despite the bad second half. It looked like a 5-7, 6-6 best case scenario at that point. What bothered me more than the USM game was the atrocious performance on both sides of the ball against UF. Give the coaches credit, some of our young guys got a little better on D, and some guys started riding the pine (sorry Elam)...and we improved dramatically on offense with Gran and Stephen Johnson deserving of most of the credit.

After the first half, I felt like we were showing improvement. After the second half, I was left wondering what the heck happened. I though they must have seen something that was giving away our plays. I remember many years ago, when UK noticed, when LSU had a tackle that lined up a certain way when LSU was going to run the ball, and a different way when they were going to pass. Jerry Claiborne was the coach.
I have always felt that a coach need 5 years to prove himself. Was I disappointed after the Florida game? You bet I was, but I still felt Coach Stoops should finish out the season, and if he showed improvement over the last two years, he should get one more year to prove himself. I knew he had a lot of players returning, and it would not be fair to deny him the chance to coach another year. What convinced me to want him for another year, was his recruiting. We had not recruited that good since Curci was the coach.

You were wise to withhold your judgments until the postseason. A football season takes 3 months, and young teams make progress through added experience. Against Southern Miss, Stoops started 3 seniors, 8 juniors, 10 sophomores, 1 freshman. Young team, small senior class, lousy defense. When Barker got injured, Stoops had to turn to a juco transfer quarterback with 9 months on campus. The job done by Stoops and Gran showed their professionalism. Yet, after the Southern Miss game, most posters on this board insisted Stoops must be fired. As recently as 6 weeks ago, I was still getting attacked here for saying Stoops and Barnhart are doing a good job. Moral of this story is, lots of fans can't see an improving football program until literally smacked in the face with a bowl invitation. At the end of the day, I have seen very few posters admit that they were butt-ugly dumb in September and October for screaming for Stoops and Barnhart to be fired. But some like you patiently waited before passing judgment. You got it right, and this makes you a much more credible poster.
I was upset, but knew that the CFB season is a long one and there are always surprises. I've learned to never judge a team until the season is over, because you can have a lot of crow to eat and a lot of egg to wipe off your face.
