May be the best D line in the country. 3 deep. Bosa isn't even a starter for these guys.

The vast majority of their 2 deep will be drafted whenever they all decide to leave. They're pretty good.

The games were very similar, except they put it away at the end, while we dicked around and made it too interesting. Indiana totally abandoned he run and threw short passes all night, keeping it close for most of the game. If we had ate up the clock and scored when we had the ball up 14 with 4 min left, they games would have been basically identical.

Glad you brought this up. The Indiana QB couldn't miss and ruled the first half even with OSU's defensive personnel. When you consider Charlie McBride's quote that "In a new system your seniors are freshman," makes me think we can relax a bit cause we are going to see alot of improvment as the season goes on. Will we beat Oregon? May be too early in our development but I'm certainly not ruling it out like a lot of folks.

I wouldn't rule it out either. We tackled well and when our dbs were in range of the receivers the broke on the ball just fine. The issues were more scheme. But that can easily change if we choose.

They were outmatched by Indiana's WRs man to man, which we might have seen too if we tried to go man to man. We simply don't have the personnel on D to play a man to man aggressive D against a up tempo quick pass offense right now. Inexperienced corners and no pass rush are a bad combo.

Indiana got owned by OSU's front 7 but protected just well enough to let Legow get the ball to a good set of receivers that was able to get open on the secondary of tOSU. Looked like they ran out of gas a bit in 4th quarter on both sides of the ball. Quick pass game works if run well but IU was not running primarily WR screens he was putting the ball downfield off quick reads. Legowmyeggo was fairly accurate under pressure. The ASU QB was not - when we got to his feet he threw it in the dirt.

Indiana's WR's did well, but I'm not sure OSU was outmatched. I'd be surprised if they continue to make a lot of the catches they were making against them, and Richard Lagow won't continue to sling it that well. IU could not run the football, and OSU is going to have a pretty solid D the more time those corners get.

I think people look too much into week 1 games. We are so starved for football, we draw these big conclusions. OSUs defense will be pretty nasty this year.

But IU also runs a faster tempo offense than Oregon.

Indiana hit some very tight passes and the wrs had some great catches against what was good coverage. Qb played very well.
It was fade after fade.

I didn't think our pass rush was all that bad Saturday. It's hard to pressure a QB who is getting rid of the ball that quick but they were getting close enough to try and get their hands in his face. The defensive line alone actually impressed me a little.

I'm a Buckeye fan so this may taint my opinion a bit. I think one thing to consider in the IU/OSU game was just how big a game it was for IU. It was their supposed coming out party in their opinion. They had the entire off season to analyze, scheme, and prepare for the game. It was an important game for OSU, but IU wasn't coming in even ranked and a week and a half later the Buckeyes are playing Oklahoma. Unlike IU, if the coaches and players were spending extra time in the offseason to focus on a game, it wasn't on the opener.

Having said that, IU came up with a great plan that fit their offensive scheme, to test the inexperienced Buckeye DBs, and they executed with near perfection. But it wasn't sustainable and after the adjustments made by the OSU coaching game, Lagos couldn't execute the quick, they couldn't run, and when the D-Line got the extra second or two, they pressured and sacked Lagow.

I don't know if this is a great D for OSU yet. On paper it's very good and we'll know more after Oklahoma.
