and who should we be hoping for? To be honest, I don't follow very closely so the list of recruits is just names to me. I do like to see lots of stars and other offers from SEC schools but its not an exact science. It looks like Mullen wants to get every player possible in the state of MS. Which to me is an obvious strategy, and maybe most coaches at MSU and OM have always took that approach and I just didn't notice. I've always believed that this state had some serious speed that gets overlooked sometimes and players that have talent that just needs coaching and development. Hopefully were finding some of those cause the ratings don't look to high right now.

I think Chism (the RB/WR from Florida) has tons of potential.
Michael Carr looked great in the championship game.
Eulls and Giles have great size at 6'4+.

But overall we've missed on some guys that could have really helped MSU (Brunetti, Hurst, Shun Coleman). We have a chance to finish strong with possibly Cam Newton, DRobinson, VSanders, and CThompson. Get 2 or 3 out of those and it'll be a good class. Miss on a them and it'll be pretty lackluster, IMO.

...if indeed Hughes and Johnson are coming, that will be big. But we need Newton or Robinson. Both would be gravy.

after kicking croom out and his brother's departure. so i don't look at him as someone that the staff couldn't get.

this class looks to be solid. not an all-star recruiting class, but there is certainly some underrated talent (carr) and guys that fill needs (carmon). like you said, if we can get 2 or 3 from newton, robinson, sanders, and thompson, i think we have a good class.

I think we're right on track, but it's really too early to tell right now. If you believe what some people are saying, this class could look very different, and much better, before the calendar turns with commitments from Robert Johnson, Matthew Wells, Cameron Newton and Nick Griffin. On the other hand, it could go to **** if those guys go elsewhere.

after the last time that you did, but at least you spelled his name right this time. His situation has been covered.

Keep in mind, we have really only missed on 3 players in-state: Dickson, Coleman, and Martin. And we were never players for those 3.

If we close with everyone who has named us as a leader + V. Sanders and D. Robinson, it will be a very solid class.

...is that on a normal year, Mississippi players just aren't going to be rated as high as other states around us. This is directly related to the state's inablity to correctly manage the public school system both monetarily and academically. Other states around the south have tons of high school programs where players get far better coaching and development throughout their high school careers. It's not that our players are less talented, just not as developed.

Back to the original point, I think our class is fine. Bolden just got moved up to a 3 star. Plus it looks as if we might close out with 4 stars: Newton, Robert Johnson, Damien Robinson, Carlos Thompson, Matthew Wells and possibly Vincent Sanders; and 3 stars: Asian Ruff, Jay Hughes, Nick Griffin. That's pretty damn solid for all Mississippi kids. Not to mention CJ Johnson, who has offers from LSU, Michigan and OM, is already committed. And the RB from Winona is near committing as well. Just wait till we win a couple of games and the total *** raping should begin.

and you can add Nash Nance and that other QB from GA. I'm not saying we can't finish with a strong class, just saying we have to close w/ the guys we're after (Newton, Robinson, Sanders, Johnson, Thompson, Wells, ect) in order for it to be a strong class. Some of you might night wanna hear it, but at this point last we had T Russell, Fletcher Cox, Josh Boyd, Montrel Conner, and Chris Smith committed, maybe Bumpis(?). Our class this year is no where near that deep, sorry..

Expecting Mullen to sign 4 and 5* across the board right from the start isn't realistic. MSU is never going to have an allstar recruiting class that can be bragged about on a T-shirt. But I think we can have very solid classes that with the proper coaching can make a good team. Go to a few bowl games (WIN) with those teams and you start to get higher rated recruits. Right now we are competing against a lot of good teams and some outstanding recruiters who are pointing out the lack of success we've had this decade.

Perhaps one day we could have a recruiting class good enough to brag about on a t-shirt... let's just hope we don't actually make that shirt.

plenty of time for coaching changes, new approaches by staff, etc to get more signees.

Just curious, and I know we were looking for a head coach at the time, but didn't our class at this point last year not include Chad Bumphis or Pernell McPhee?

I was just showing that our staff is doing a good job recruiting, but that Mississippi ratings can be deceptive at times.

I go by stars, but I also go by their film. I have seen film on every player except Claussell and I don't think Mullen and Heavsey just give out Schollys especially to O-linemen. I trust our coaches on the evaluation of these players.

I'll tell you this, most of these guys are underated. Jamerson Love and Jameon Lewis can flat out fly. Great athletes. Bolden makes a ton of great catches, and looks the part. Carr is a monster and so is Virges. I saw these two play in person. Neal looks like a great back with speed and power.

Overall the class looks pretty good. If we add Newton, Wells, Griffin, Johnson, Hughes, Chris Hughes, Robinson, Sanders, Thompson, and Ruff....this class is better than last years. This is all my opinion based on film. It would be nice to see alot of these guys with multiple BCS offers, but I think that plays into the part of MS kids traditionally being underated and it also seems alot of these kids like to stay close to mama.

I say we end up with a top 30 class, quite possibly top 20 if we get EVERY guy mentioned above-I'm sure I left out somebody that's on the fence with us also.

I believe OL Gates and Dillon Day are also on our radar. Would love to see us take 4 OL.

the other night and that kid is an athlete. He committed very early and to MSU, so that is instant -1 star. I heard recently that him getting qualified would be work, so maybe that has something to do with him not being heavily pursued. I do know that on that first TD that he scored, I had seen all I needed to see. I hope he qualifies and pans out. He has the physical tools.
