What do you want from PAC 12 expansion?

Any Mountaineer fans out there?

You may have seen the articles about the PAC 12 deciding on expansion in the coming weeks.

If they do, what do you hope comes of it or not?

We know Bolwsby did speak with their commish about some sort of merger of the entirety of both conferences--do you see that happening and if so how would you want it to work?

Don't want a Pac/Big12 merger, only as a last PowerLeague resort, but I don't see it happening. If they add teams, I see initially only adding two teams, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State.

Could be.

If the Big Ten and ACC are not going to have an expansion, then being part of a large 8 team expansion of the PAC would be the best of the rest options IMO.

Don't want to see i.e. all the western BIG 12 schools headed west but WVU still sitting out east so if they are doing a full merger that would be the best case.

Of course the PAC may not grow at all, or maybe there will be some surprise schools--i.e. SEC ones, you never know til its announced.

I know people don't want to hear or believe it, but I truly think TCU and Baylor is hurting the other 6 being picked up by other conferences. But I am afraid though that if T Tech and Okie State get grabbed by the PAC, then KU, KSU, ISU, and WVU will be sitting and waiting as the Alliance will have 14 football teams each.

Imo — Kansas and Iowa State sit in the best position as they are in the AAU, ISU football is playing well bow and Kansas’ basketball brand is so highly regarded.

As for Baylor/TCU I think that their fairly recent football success, Texas location, and Baylors basketball success plays a bigger role on their desirabilty than anything to do with religion at these schools

You're living in a dream world if you think ISU gets in the BIG 10. Kansas basketball will not get them through this round. Texas Tech isn't worth the hassle without Texas.

TCU and Baylor have done nothing for the last 7 years. Basketball is not going to move the needle.

If the PAC expands there are two ways it COULD go

1. Stay west and go after BYU and UNLV. BYU has a great following and is a football school. Also BYU has a national following so even though the PAC had UTAH adding BYU could be a good add to the PAC. UNLV gives the PAC the Las Vegas Market and that comes with many benefits.

2. Try and get into the central time zone. This means that many combinations could happen but I see Texas Tech and Kansas. Texas Tech gets the PAC into Texas and Kansas fits the PAC mold. I think that OK St is somehow going to the BIG but if not you can put OK St in Kansas place.

I don't see your option one as a possibility. They already have a school in Utah, and their product is big in Nevada so they wouldn't gain much.

Getting into the central and eastern time zone may be important to them as they've been upset about times when their games have been played and are on--they want some 3:30 and 7:30 games.

Obviously they'd want to get into Texas because of the recruiting power there. ISU and KU they'd probably be fine with their academics. Oklahoma State brings a well financed athletic dept and a consistently good football program.

Don't know if they'll try to add all 8 which would probably not bode well for WVU if they expand, but I'd say that would be option 2 before adding BYU or UNLV.

Geographically they can go with Kansas schools, OK State and stay in contiguous states. After that then obviously Texas schools would also be in their footprint if they chose that direction.

PAC will not add BYU, they have debunked them in the past and nothing has changed in that regard. UNLV and Nevada might be added but only after all the current Power5 teams are off the table.

PAC does not accept religious schools.

Therefore BYU, Baylor and TCU are the Holy 3 conference.

This isn’t rocket science 😂. If PAC12 expands it will be from Little8 as it always has been since the Big East imploded. With the exception of Maryland of course the SWC/Big12/Little8 has always been the ***** of college football when poaching occurs. It’s not like their are a lot of options. If the PAC12 indeed expands that’s an official white beta flag that they are serious about competing for top 3 Conference status. Just secures their spot at the big boy table for future. Unfortunately if this happens it may be one more step out on the plank.

Pac 12 expansion would not be good news for wvu unless we are one of the teams invited. The only choices they really have would be big 12 leftovers. Pac 12 might end up being the conference that finishes off the big 12 for good.

Greg if you look at the 8 remaining big 12 teams how do you rank each teams chance at finding a new home? I think Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are in the best position. If the pac expands by 2 teams I think these are the two that get the invites. The pac likes state universities and these two fit there model the best. I think the next two that have the best chance are KU and Wvu. Ku is a flagship university and has been mentioned as a possible big 10 expansion candidate before. Its probably a long shot for them at the moment but they do add credibility to any conferences on the basketball side. Wvu is surrounded by the big 10, acc, and sec. If the big 10 and sec go on an expansion binge wvu has a chance as an expansion candidate or replacement candidate. I think Iowa state ,K state, TCU ,Baylor will have the most difficulty. K State is in the middle of nowhere surrounded by states in the middle of nowhere. Iowa State is in a small state and big bother is in the big 10. I don't think Big 10 wants 2 Iowa teams. Tcu and Baylor are two small colleges and both are lucky two be members of a power 5. How do you see it?

Heard some stuff early and posted it. I posted early about everything being on the table and mentioned mergers/alliances more than expansion. Also heard early Oklahoma State, TCU and WVU would be ok long term. Haven’t heard much over last 3 weeks. Now with this merger/alliance deal, if finalized, things seem to be going away from expanding. So if this alliance does go through I think Big8 should wait a couple of years, reset their budgets to hunker down with some AAC schools and in 2 or 3 years expect possible exits from some of this group: WVU, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech and Kansas. Maybe Iowa St can sneak into PAC12 but I doubt. I think BigTen plays the long game and snatches 4-6 ACC teams if ND doesn’t join ACC by 2030-2032. Thanks for asking.
