official to help us after we received the letter from the NCAA. This indicates that Auburn, at least, has a problem that they need help in solving.

Marsh has served on NCAA committees and was on the SEC committee Slive put together re: compliance reporting etc. He has served as bama's rep in NCAA matters. I had him for commercial transactions in law school at UA and have deposed him several times as an expert witness. Smart guy.

Gene Marsh has proven to be the kiss of death for almost every program he has represented in the past decade. He represented Alabama in the Albert Means case, Michigan in their recent violations, and, most recently, USC. He works for the firm Lightfoot Franklin out of Birmingham. Basically, his job is to come in, investigate, "discover" any violations, and provide plausible deniability for the university he represents.

**** but the situations you mentioned I believe all had to to with extra benefits tied to those schools. So far, and without any proof of wrongdoing on Auburn's part they are going to argue that what happened at MSU doesnt make him ineligi ble at Auburn. Marsh would most likely be able to help them with arguing that point by reference to no previous NCAA precedent in this situation for ineligibility at Auburn, interpretation and application of NCAA rules etc. Until something is tied to Auburn we dont know what will happen.
