What does our lineup look like next year for basketball?

1. Dee- Pretty set in stone. I think he will step up even more next year. He is progressing.

2. Phil Turner- I know a lot of people say that he can't play 40 min. because of his energy and effort, but I think he could pull it off. He is a proven senior, and a good defender. If he can guard fours, he should be able to guard twos at his size. I have seen some people say Benock, I have seen Shaun Smith, and maybe Brian Bryant, but when was the last time a JUCO came in and actually was productive for us? Maybe Vincent? Still, this is up in the air for sure.

3. Ravern, I guess. I would kind of like to see Osby because I know that Dee, Romero, and Renardo all played together. But I have to believe that Ravern will start. At least Ravern can score and hit threes and occasionally throw down a dunk.

4. Kodi, if he isn't kicked off of the team. Maybe he will have a Charles Rhodes senior year, but I think we will see more of the same.

5. Renardo. Hopefully he will be as advertised. Definately a downgrade from Swat defensively- but that would have been the case no matter what- but maybe an upgrade offensively. He could be the "other option" when we are dying by the three.

Sixth man- Romero I guess. I would kind of like to see Ravern in this role and Osby start because of what I said above. It would be nice to have a sixth man who can come off of the bench and knock down some threes. If the Benock theorists theory holds, I guess it will be Phil.

Manute Bol- Riek.

Joseph Chitwood Iupe- Charles Parker.

with the possible exception of Ravern moving to the 2 and Osby starting at the 3. Of course, the issue there is that you're relying on Ravern to guard a critical player which gives me chills, so I think your lineup is probably dead on. I'd expect the critical bench minutes to come from Bryant, Osby, and Bailey.

Benock does what he can, but the kid is unfortunately just a space filler these days. I don't even know where to start on Riek. I really thought that a lot of the board was crazy for saying that he wouldn't contribute this year, but I honestly don't know that I see him contributing ever. He's a lost soul on the court. Other than that, here's hoping that Shaun Smith fully recovers and is as good as his high school accolades dictate.

<div class="scrolling"><div>I in all honesty dont think any 1 player will step up. There wont be an individual player that steps up and carryseveryone likeDowney or Fortson.

I bet there will be random games where different players go off and itll be inconsistent and we wont ever be able to depend on an inside game or an outside game due to the inconsistent play that perpetually plagues these players.

--Ravern will go off on offense in a good amount of games. He will continue to develop the ability to get to the rim and finish. He will also continue to be a non-factor on defense, save to occasional steal or rebound.

--Kodi will continue to be streaky from outside. He will continue to drive the lane from the elbow and hopefully reduce the number of charges and turnovers that result from such a move. His post play will be unreliable, yet consistently good when he actually plays down there.

--Bailey will continue to be a role player because that is what he has always been and he has yet to show even 1 bit of reason to think otherwise. He will continue to hustle hard and give great effort. His lack of ability to play above the rim will continue to limit his effectiveness at both ends and who the hell can guess how tearing up a knee and poppint out an ankle will affect him...cant imagine it would be a benefit in any way.

--Riek will continue to look like a hobbled deer when "running" up and down the court. Just thru time, his knee will have improved, but i cant imagine he will be even close to the dominant post player from a few years ago that destroyed Oden and all other centers at a skills camp.

--Lewis will continue to show awesome athleticism and an ability to play above the rim. He will hopefully improve his ability to handle passes(it cant get any worse).

--Osby will continue to randomly show up and wont be dependable for scoring at all. He will continue to drive into the lane and pull spin moves that throw even him off balance. He will continue to underwhelm everyone.

--Benock will continue to pass on open 3s and grab a couple long rebounds from our 35 3pt shots we will jack up each game. He will contine to be a total non-factor on offense and continue to play because of his intangibles...which also happen to be indescribable.

--Turner will continue to stand on the bulldog logo and shotput the ball at the rim from there. He will continue to be erratic with his 3pt shot as a result. He will play down in the paint at times on D because what would MSU be without a PF that is 6" and 50# smaller than his opponent? He will also continue to be a hard nosed defender that goes for steals and plays with passion.

--Bost will continue to be called one of the best PGs in the SEC and will continue to have the potential to be a dominant college PG. He will take over some games with his ability to get to the rim at will and his streaky shooting from deep. And i have all the faith in the world he will also continue to dribble out of control at times...though its rare to see a college PG not be out of control at times these days.

--Beckham will continue to have a terrible jump shot and will also continue to fail at finishing at the rim. His FT shots will once again be less than average and he will still play transition ball out of control.

--Who the hell knows about the JUCO transfer...could be great and could suck.

And most importantly...
--Stans will continue to hit and miss on recruiting. He will continue to force players to play out of position due to not having proper players for the positions in his 'offense'. Stans will continue to let the team play right on the edge of out of control, and he will most importantly give everyone including Riek the greenlight to shoot 3pters in the first 5 seconds of the shotclock.

...didnt include Sidney because until he plays, he doenst count.</div></div>

it depends if Turner plays like he did last year, or if he plays like he has this season. Other than that I would be very surprised if we saw a different lineup.

G: Bost
G: Bryant
G: Ravern
F: Sidney
F: Augustus

Why would Stans all of the sudden decide to start playing Turner at the 2?

but we are MSU.

If our 1992 team had the Dream Team starting five of Jordan, Magic, Bird, Sir Charles, and Ewing, I would have been skeptical.

If Sidney ever plays for us, he's more likely to be the best player we've had since Dontae Jones than he is to not be an upgrade over Varnado offensively.

I think he can become a solid post player in the SEC given time and work.

I hope Bailey can give us valuable post minutes. He brings the toughness that none of our other big men seem to have (unless Lewis develops). If we start Sidney and Augustus at the 4 and 5, we better score a lot of points. Because I think they'll give up a lot of points. Kodi has played surprisingly decent, though, in the middle of the 2-3.

I would like to see Bost, Johnson, Osby, Kodi, Sidney. I've seen some say Smith will start at the 2 with Ravern at the 3, but I'll believe that when I see it. He has basically missed the last 2 years with injuries.

we are an instant NCAA contender. Sidney will command a double team down low and has the ability to be a very good post defender especially due to his size and skill level. While some will likely chalk up him playing as another example of the luck of Stansbury to have a player of Sidney's ability "fall into his lap", it's really another example of how Stansbury never stops recruiting...just like when we got L Roberts.

This just made me think about our lineup from a recent experience standpoint.

--Sidney will have not played competitive basketball in about 21 months by the time he joins in December.
--Smith will have not played competitive basketball in about 20 months by the time next season starts. Add to that the fact that his senior HS year was riddled with injury, he sat out the summer AAU games before his senior year, and he was injured in his junior year too!...thats a lot of missed basketball.
--Bailey will have not played(except for a dozenish minutes this year) competitive basketball in about 20 months by the time next season starts. In that time, his foot came unhinged from his leg and he tore a tendon in his knee that holds his leg together.
--Beckham will have not played competitive basketball in about 20 months by the time next season starts. In that time he had surgery and managed to still suck at basketball.
--Riek will have only played 32 minutes of competitive basketball since i think the NBA workout back in the spring of 2008(may)!!! That will be 2.5 years timewhere he played for all of a half a game in total.

Thats 5 players who have taken a TON of time off from playing.

I just wish Ravern would play defense so that it would be a reality.

If we went with that lineup, I guess we would have to take our chances that we could outscore the other teams random *******. Which we might very well be able to do.

I think Ravern and Kodi play the 3 and 4, spelled by Osby. I really don't know where Phil will fit in. I really like him off the bench, but I don't know who else starts at the 2. </p>

but don't forget about Bailey. I think of all the players hurt this year, he would have been the most beneficial besides Renardo, but he wasn't hurt. If you think about it, Varnado was the only big man we had this year that played with his back to the basket. Having Bailey this year would have made us be able to have two big men in the game that actually play like real big men with their backs against the goal and getting rebounds, plus his strength and size would have helped. Not to mention the depth we needed. Back to next year. I think a good lineup could be

1-Dee
2-Shaunessy or Bryan Bryant or Phil
3-Ravern
4-Kodi
5-Hopefully Renardo but if not then Elgin

Top subs depending on who starts: Romero, Turner, Beckham, Bailey, Shaun, Bryant, Lewis, Benock

I think Romero will finally figure things out and be one of those players that starts to blossom in his upper class years. I really have no idea who will start in a few spots especially since we still don't know about Renardo, but if we can just stay healthy and not lose three players for a whole year we can be a pretty good team this year. Also, if everybody works hard and gets better, we could be better than this year, even though we were suppose to do better this year.

Edited to add: I just saw where Sidney said he would be back next year, but a lot could happen between now and then as we all know.
