What does the media see in South Carolina?

They're 9-11 in the polls, and Colin Cowherd is emphatic on how they pass the "eye test." That wasn't what I saw in the Vandy game, and it wasn't what I think a lot of us Sixpackers saw either. It's not uncommon for the media to hype up an undeserving team, but I don't see it often after I watch a game that I think the team noticeably underachieves. Am I wrong, or is the media spinning the game for ratings/self serving purposes? Or just flat out incompetence?

I thought they'd drop some... is it possible they "ran into a buzzsaw"?.... at vandy???

They didn't seem to be very physical, but still managed 200+ yards rushing... I'm not sure what to think of that game...

FWIW, i got Vandy -8.5 versus the Bears....

Or maybe they are right and maybe Vandy is a top 40 team again this year. Was Arky overrated last year? Because it took a late miracle for them to beat Vanderbilt....

The only clearly overrated teams IMO are Oklahoma and Stanford.

Pre-season poll. Sees all, knows all. The regular season is merely a validation of this crystal ball.

I think a lot of people are going to look stupid for pumping

up USCe, but I can understand why they're not jumping off the bandwagon after struggling against Vandy.

My issue with USCe isn't that they had a bad game, it's that their qb can't throw, their widereceivers are all slot back types, Ellis Johnson is gone, and Lattimore did not look like the old Lattimore. That said, the east looks to be way down this year and depending on how good Mizzou is, South Carolina could go 6-1 against it even if it is down. I haven't looked at South Carlonia's OOC schedule, but I just hope they don't t embarass the SEC against an OOC.

That's my feel. SC is going to disappoint this year because they have a weak passing game and that was not the case last year. That coupled with the fact that EJ is gone running the defense spells trouble for them. Defenses that are physical and can match up with SC's OL are going to stop a lot of SC's run game until they show they have more of a passing threat. Vandy did what they could to stop it by stunting and moving around but were still outweighed on the DL by about 40 pounds a man along the line. That won't be the case for most SEC defenses.

They have a pretty good defense and know how to use it to

win games. Remember our game last year, they didn't do much on offense except that one series but they
didn't let us do much either. They play pretty smart football in my opinion.

Ditto. And the weak passing game will turn abysmal whenever Shaw is out of the game, which will happen a lot this year. He's already having severe trouble with his shoulder, and that's going to keep being aggravated whenever he goes running out of the pocket. The Ole Ball Coach better have two rabbits feet wrapped in 4 leaf clovers in his pocket at all the games this year.

I see a damn solid team that's going to win 10 games again

IF and IF Connor Shaw and Lattimore stays healthy. I watched a team that played on the road against, who I think is, a scrappy top 40 in the country SEC team in sloppy weather conditions. I believe USCe will win 10 games, I think they'll lose to Georgia or an opponent they should beat and LSU..

I have a hard time completely following this because it isn't exactly like South Carolina was marching the ball with him in there. Most of his good plays were runs. I told my fiancee while watching that he will be lucky to make it out of that game without an injury because he was running like Chris Relf with a body that can't take the pounding.

Shaw is a decent quarterback, but his play wasn't good enough while he was in there and healthy to make me think that their team is much better than what everyone saw last week.
