there is a chance now that we will get Sunday sales. Chance. Its all up to the alderman but its a possiblilty. Somebody that knows more than me will chime in but Starkville has a better chance of Sunday sales now for sure

I just talked to one of my friends who is a member of Starkville Young Professionals. This group was nearly 90% for Sunday Alcohol sales and the main group pushing the matter. He gave me this....

Ward 1: Carver- Can be swayed
Ward 2: Sistrunk- For
Ward 3: Parker- For
Ward 4: Corey- For
Ward 5: Dumas- Very much for and will be the one to push this the most
Ward 6: Perkins- Can be swayed
Ward 7: Vaughn- Against

This means there are 4 votes For Sunday Sales, two that can be swayed and just one who is completely against it. His attitude was that it was almost 100% that it would get passed very soon. All you need was 4 votes I believe. Also, Wiseman WILL NOT veto this if placed on his desk.

Things seem to be looking good for Sunday sales.

Except for WAY OFF on Perkins. Not a chance in hell Perkins can be swayed. If I'm wrong, I'll build a house of gummy bears right next to an ant hill and give up my free chat privileges for life.

Perkins swayed? Hilarious. He said in a BOA meeting earlier this year that he didn't want the city engineers to have amenities in their trucks such as radio and AC. There is no need for them to be bop to their music on our bill. Not exact wording but damn close. Perkins is not going to be swayed. If all aldermen elects stick to their word then we should have Sunday sales. Ben is a good friend and can be swayed.

Perkins tied his reputation to Matt Cox and Henry Vaughn in the first and second elections, and he got his *** whipped in the D runoff. His own ward went for Wiseman with 65 percent of vote, as did Vaughn's ward (the other minority board). Several prominent members of the black community are highly agitated with Perkins in how he treated Janette Self in her election against Vaughn. Many say that Parker Wiseman won the election because of the black community's dissatisfaction with Roy's actions and his endorsement of Matt killed Matt in the black community.

And FYI, Roy Perkins did tell Matt Cox that if Matt wanted Sunday Sales, he WOULD vote for it. ETA: Doubt Roy will vote for sunday sales now that Matt isnt mayor, but his vote really wont matter at this point.

Why does Ben need to be "swayed?" I'm actually a little shocked he isn't 100% for Sunday sales in the first place. I admittedly don't know him very and haven't spoken to him in years, but I figure most 28 year old males in Starkville are for it.

BWW on a sunday with beers, wings, and cheering on my fantasy NFL team is one of my favorite things to do.... but I live in Starkville. I actually went out to cowbells this past sunday and had a great time. All I could think of is how ridiculous it was that I couldn't do this in the city limits.

You couldn't buy the drink before 11am at least, so it won't really interfere with church that much. Hell, a huge portion of Sunday sales is usally post-church brunch. Mimosas and bloody marys.

I think people who will be torn between drinking in the AM or going to church, are probably not going to church anyway.

I was making the point that Roy Perkins is not the power he once was, making it irrelevant what he thinks on the board. Of course the black churches will be against it, however, Roy was neutered in this last election, by those same black churches.

"We have it 6 days a week, why do we need it another." However, I think that he can be swayed, but that is a pretty blue-collar, old timers district he represents, and Sunday Sales is the sole reason Mark Duncan did not beat that travesty of a candidate Bagwell in the Democrat Primary.

No one will ever convince me this is even a little bit true.

Man wakes up, gets showered and dressed, goes downstairs and says, "You ready for church?"
Wife/roommate says, "Church? Did you forget? We can drink on Sundays now."
Man says, "Oh yeah! Screw going to church! Let's get bombed!"
