What does this win do for Stoops?

Nothing. This was a very painful win against a bad team. This might have actually been the ugliest game ever. He doesn't get fired yet but he still has a job. He now needs 3 more to save his job.

It shows what most of us have known that the guy can coach. He coached them to bend but not break and not give up the TD. DB'S were like blankets that last series.

Nothing, expected win against a bad Vandy team. Now if he beats MSU and beats APSU, sadly I think that is good enough for Mitch.

Ugly as hell, Stoops lives to fight another day. Now Mississippi State is the absolute must win. I still dont see this team as being capable of winning at Missouri. Watch Georgia wax South Carolina tomorrow. Tennessee ans Louisville aint happening

Hell no, it doesn't cool his seat. He is in virtually the same position against Miss St and Mizzou. If he wins those two, then the narrative changes a bit and his seat cools.

Likely keeps him his job even without another win besides Austin Peay. If they beat Mizzou another 5-7 season. Not what I'm looking for in year 4 but I've said all year 4 wins keeps him for another year

UK is lucky they had Vandy on the schedule at this point. Still looks like a bad football team to me.
Offense is completely 1 dimensional. Defense looks better but hard to judge against a bad team like Vandy.
Vandy had a chance to send this game to OT if the TE catches that ball. This is not a good team right now. Vandy is pretty bad.

How is that sadly good enough? If we win the Southern Miss game we are exactly on track with what everyone though...losses to UF and Bama who we weren't supposed to beat. A 6-6 year should have been 7-5 if not for the second half melt down and we lost to 5 teams who were better than us (UF, Bama, UGA, UT and UL). That is what most predicted but because of one screwup all hell has broken loose.

If we end the season 6-6 it is a step forward and we expect more wins next year which has been the catapult year all along.

Vandy lost to UF by 7 and held them to 13 points. This football team has improved and if not for Barker going down we would be putting up points like we did the first half of the Southern Miss game.

I don't think it is acceptable to not go to a bowl again in year 4. Schedule is even tougher next year so doubt that happens next year either.

And my post was predicting a 5-7 finish. If he goes 6-6 that would be a sign of some progress despite the blunder against Southern Miss. I meant beating APSU and MSU for a 5-7 finish.

IMO it keeps him alive for another week. I hope the guy pulls it out. I'd love to see him get to 6 or 7 and earn another year. With the caveat being he has to be significantly better next year regardless. For the first time I can remember there are 6 just putrid teams on our schedule. We have to win 6 with this schedule.

Saved his job. Had they lost, team moral and fan support would would have tanked. .500 and a bowl would be out of the picture. It would have been real ugly going forward. If he wasn't canned at the end of this season he would have gone into next season a lame duck.

The win puts things at all square. Being .500 at this point essentially resets things at 0-0 heading into the second half of the season. 3-3 in the second half is not out of the realm of possibility. The ugly games are out of the way.

A Conference win going into bye week is huge.

Miss St is beatable, and we get them at home.

I think it does little for Stoops. It does show the kids are starting to show they know how to play a football game, which gives some hope for whoever the coach is next season.

you do know why southern miss was in schedule right? If uab didn't drop football we would be setting at 4-2. Southern miss wasn't great but neither are me. They had one thing we didn't and that was an experienced qb. Their qb handled adversity where ours didn't and we got upset. (Most teams get upset at least okce a year and that's what happened to us. Will happen to basketball team also)

Guys we won, and the defense looked good. Just enjoy the win. I have seen improvement in our defense, and I'm sure most of you have. We have three good RB's, and I think we have 18 or 19 of our starters back next year.
I thought Coach Stoops should be fired if we didn't go bowling, but if the defense continues to improve, with the present QB situation, I can see him getting another year.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

One screwup? Southern Miss was one. Letting a terrible New Mexico St put up 35 points in the first half is two. Getting destroyed by Florida is three. Struggling to beat the worst team in the conference and letting them march right down the field with multiple chances to tie the game is four.

I am still not sure how much we have improved. South Carolina is a horrible measuring stick and I doubt Alabama took us serious most of the game. He has to win the next 2 if he wants me to think about jumping back on the bandwagon and even still I would like to see a win over one of the 3 good opponents we have left on the schedule to feel like we are turning the corner.

I could see us squeak into a bowl this year and return back to a losing record next year and set us back even further. It would put the next coach in a bigger hole once we start losing a bunch of starters. Next year sets up perfect for the right coach to come in here and have a good first year and if it doesn't happen and we keep Stoops, I'm afraid we will be back in the same shape when Joker was fired. That is a tough situation to get out of with the wrong coach.

For UK wanting to make a bowl that was a terrible call to add them to a schedule that had SEC and UL. They coulda found another team to play.

With MB as AD and the enormous buyout that is included in his extension, his seat NEVER WAS HOT. Stoops will be at UK thru next season no matter what record UK finished with. Personally, I think it'll be another 5-7 season and Mitch will say we've improved.
Next year is the decisive season for Stoops. Anything less than a Bowl game at the end of the 2017 season and he's done.

Yep, taught them to depend on the opposition dropping a perfect routine right in the hands with no defender near touchdown.

UAB beat southern miss their last year. Was not a guaranteed win.

See above. UAB beat Southern Miss their last game.

Yep , 5&7 and lots of starters coming back , no way Barnhart pulls the trigger. Next season will be the litmus test for Stoops .

We were demoralized after the Southern Miss collapse and t showed against Florida...plus Barker was injured and tried to play through it.

NMSU first half was the result of players adjusting to Stoops play calling and it showed the second half after they got a chance to talk about it at the half.

Ever since that point it has been improvement on defense and what does it say about UF that they only beat Vandy by 7 if us beating them by 10 was squeaking by?

We did not struggle to beat Vandy and even though they marched down the field really twice in the whole freaking game...how many offensive touchdowns did they have? If not for Boom's fumble this would have been a 23-6 or 27-6 game.

Does his seat cool down significantly?
You must be loving this. Barring a total team meltdown in the next 6 weeks, Stoops will be back in 2017. In the absence of some very unusual circumstances, no athletics director is going to spend $17-18 million in contract buyouts to fire a coaching staff that has 19 incumbent starters returning the following year.
