What grade would you give Stricklin in his first year?

Reading the interview by Marcello made me wonder what everyone thought of Stricklins first year on the job.

because theres always room for improvement and the fact that the basketball team has been a joke most of the season. Ive crossed paths with him several times and he is always very personable and I feel like he has the athletic department headed in the right direction.

Sure would like to see more than 5-7,000 seats there. He needs to go out and get enough money to add 10-12,000 seats on th enorth end, add sky boxes and brick up the facade all the way around- Just my opinion. That would be worth an "A", with a (+) in "Works well with others".

My philosphy on the whole thing is that he hasn't done anything to detract from his grade. I think he has beenconsistent for us. He has shown solid and realistic optimism and thats what I want from an AD. I don't want an AD that lacks energy and enthusiasm(and looking for the retirement light at the end of the tunnel alla: Larry T), BUT I also don't want an AD that acts like our government and issigning off on stadium expansions and other projectswhen the money isn't fully available yet and we're not even sure ALL of those seats/boxes can be filled anyway. I appreciate his patience to go ahead and do the research, find reasonable funding and allocate it accordingly. Also, I like that he doesn't seem to be firing coaches at a whim, like some on this board think he should be. Research, analyze, weigh the pros and cons, search for solutions, and come up with the best option. I feel like Strick is doing a good job by this model, and I feel that its good enough for an A from my viewpoint.

There really has not been enough opportunities for major decisions on his watch yet. I do, however, like what I see in his leadership thus far.

there is always room for improvement. To much drama with the basketball team, needs to make Rick make some changes for next year.

The only issue where I could possibly criticize would be the cowbell fiasco. I feel the best path would have been to downplay/ignore the issue as much as possible at last year's meetings. Making it center stage got us the "cowbell compromise" which will likely get us hefty fines and stricter rules in coming years. It was a situation where we were set up to fail. Stricklin fought for us on this issue, but I think it would have worked out better for us if a different approach had been taken.

As it said, he did ok but I've seen better (under Greg B). Scott, maybe, just hasn't had the opportunity but he hasn't really done anything...except maybe the cowbell compromise. The jury is still out on the expansion (a 2015 target date? Really?) and whether or not he gets Dan's football complex built asap. Even Mullen wants it done asap but I am not seeing any real sense of urgency right now.

The complaints were there, and there was a push already to take further steps to penalize the school. The cowbell compromise was a defensive move, not an offensive one.

Had we been underformer leadership, we'd have walked out of Destin with a fine structurewith no appropriate times to ring.

I give Scott a B+. Picked right up where Byrne left off.
How he handles Rick and the basketball program will determine his grade for his second year.

the reason this would fail is due to some selfish stubborn ***-ed fans that could but would not control themselves.

I want to see what he does when it counts.

He got off light with the Jack thing. Hate it for Jack, but it made life easy for grasshopper.

needs more time in the head role before earning an A rating. He is sharp, energized, and great communicator and listenerand loves MSU. I think we got a winner on this one.

I think the big thing is how Striklin and staff have been promoting and selling the university. They've done a good job of trying to get our name out there as auniversity that everyone wants to come to, and that alumni want to give back to. I'm pleased about that aspect. The only think stopping me from giving an A is the fact that the stadium upgrade start date isn't set yet. That should have been done, and I'm surprised by the fact they are only thinking of adding 5 to 7 thousand. That's mildly dissapointing.
