In a Mickey dees drive thru this morning. The car in front of me gets to second window. I see the food being handed to her. Then a conversation ensues between driver and employee. Laughing, yelling, head bobbing, all of it. For 3 minutes!! Was about to honk my horn but then remembered I was in the rav4 and its tonal toy horn. Infuriating that people have absolutely NO consideration for others!

What grinds my gears is getting behind a person buying scratch off lottery tickets at the c-store. A few weeks ago I got behind a woman cashing in $20 or so dollars of winning tickets one at a time and using the winnings to buy more...and I always seem to run into it in the morning, when working folks are trying to get to work....

Most places around here won’t let you do that. You’ve got to go outside or get out of line and scratch it and get back in line.

The other type that gets me at the register are those who buy one item with a $20 then when they get their change, browse and pick through the entire 'impulse buy' offerings that are within arm's reach one at a time until they have spent all of the change they received back. So, instead of one transaction, you've now stood there for one person making five transactions.

I feel like that is fairly standard practice, but that was not the case at this place on this particular morning....

On topic of McD's drive through. The one near me has a setup like this:

1770857192794.png
That's one lane clearly marked by solid yellow line with a decision point to choose the path of least resistance when approaching the ordering area. There is no ambiguity here. It's clearly marked and obvious that you are supposed to stay single file and then split off. Likely to keep space clear for parking lot traffic not using the drive through.

Well apparently the rest of the planet doesn't have eyes, a brain that works, or just hates the resemblance of order because I'll file in single file like you are supposed to and some jackass cuts the line and inevitably others follow suit forming 2 lanes. This happens probably 50%.

Infuriating.

Assuming you live in the south, you should expect this.

For Jxn area dogs, the McDonals on Spillway, considered the worst service in the metro, was recently bought by a guy from Cali. He's moved here and is personally managing it. Hopefully it has improved.

Wow. You don’t expect to see the owner actively working at most fast food places. This is one area CFA runs circles around them in. The operator can only have 2 restaurants. And he has to work full time.

This is the absolute worst for me. I'm in line at McD's or other fast food joint. Person ordering takes forever but finally finishes (it's fast food--how hard can it be???). Next in line steps up to the register, looks up at the menu for the first time, and says "hmmm let's see..."

The middle of the aisle cart parkers that then reach over to the shelf all deserve to be cattle prodded.
Or the ones who blindly haul *** out of the side aisles without pretending to look, congregate with two or three other fellow hippos to block the main aisles, and finally won't walk 20 feet to put their carts up. Their final act of savagery and stupidity is to pull through the parking space and drive the wrong way out of the parking lot.

With your propensity for fighting and bragging about it you should have just jumped out of your vehicle and tried to beat his/her/its a$$ and then came back here to tell the story like anyone gives a damn.

Is this something that has happened to you more than once? I think either the universe hates you or maybe some people are running an elaborate, multi-party practical joke on you.

Have you never lived in Mississippi? This is not an anomaly.
I have very occasionally been behind people that make impulse buys as they see the total ringing up and realize they can grab a pack of gum or something without having to break another bill. Probably similar to or slightly less than how often I'm behind people who have to or just decide to pull stuff out of the checkout line to cut the cost. But never have I been behind somebody that gets their change back, and then make a separate purchase. I'm fascinated that this is a common occurrence some places. I've spent plenty of time in Jackson, the Delta, Hattiesburg, the Coast, Starkville and Oxford. Less time in the Tupelo and Desoto county and very little in other parts. Where does this happen often enough to complain about it as a common occurrence rather than something off the wall?

I don't eat fast food much but this happens nearly every time with this pattern. If you drive a truck the inside lane is not an option and the mouth breathers will 17 it up and create a massive cluster 17.

Really does a good job of letting you know what kinda trash we are dealing with here. Head bobbers making a comeback is something I don’t even wanna imagine in 2026
Is there a difference between head-bobbing and chicken-heading? We really need to know that first.

As I get older I find myself identifying more with Hank Hill and Larry David.

I don't ever intend to, but if I ever turn into "HOA guy", my loved ones will hopefully hold an intervention. Too far.

I haven't been through a fast food drive through in probably close to 20 years, I refuse to.

The vast majority of the employees on the other end of the microphone don't speak normal English, and add to that the shi-tty speakers that they speak through that muffle the conversation and that's a big no from me.
