What happened to Hackenberg?

Just got home and looked at the Penn State boxscore. Hackenberg 10-21, 96 yards, 0 points. This guy seemed like a sure fire top draft pick two years ago...what happened? Is it all the offensive line? Whenever I watch, he seems to miss a lot of easy throws. Still has a strong arm, but is he permanently damaged goods?

He's got an NFL Arm and skill set.... he looks good in the pocket... that amost ensures he will be effective and deserves to be the PSU starter based on that alone according to many on this board !

I think it's a lot of things.

I don't think he's as good as many projected but better than he shows. He can't win a game by himself or carry the team for long stretches but is a good enough QB to win a lot IF he has a team around him. The last 2+ years of physical beatings have had to take a toll on him. He's had almost no protection for his entire career. He could end up being a better pro than college QB.

I expected PSU to win 9 games this year based on an adequate O and very strong D. Now it looks like a 7-5 season is just as likely. I don't think it's all on him but he'll get the blame.

I have been saying all year that he can't read a defense. He can read pre snap shifts, and he can read blitzes.
