What happened to the Hump?

Since the re-seating, there is no crowd intimidation in the Hump. Every game that I have seen lacks any kind of crowd noise that I had gotten used to. I understand that money is the bottom line, but the atmosphere has declined. The visiting team has it a lot easier now.

Is it just me, or does anyone else notice it on the tube?

People are less inclined to be loud if the person beside them isn't loud

The Rowdies need to sit together, plain and simple. I don't know why they've decided to try to split it up but it's definitely not working. We need to have a student side that stands and is loud and a student side that sits and is quiet.

Almost every home game we've had has been either a lackluster opponent or we played like **** and lost in the previous game (in this case Alabama and Arkansas). People have made too big of a deal about the new seating..that really has nothing to do with the noise. It has to do with our team goin out there and acting like they're playing a pick up game at the local rec center. Oh and as for the rowdies comment I had the misfortune of sitting next to 3 of those things today and I wish we could ship them all to 17ing Iran..those kids suck something awful.

The group on the risers is the extent of the group at this point. Their numbers have been shrinking by the game.

What is wrong with enthusiastic students cheering for their team? At least they are making some noise. I don't get the hate for enthusiastic color wearing fans. I guess they would be cool if they wore something their daddy bought them at Sherwin Williams in non-MSU colors and sat down in their chairs while poopooing their own team with snotty unimpressed looks on their faces.

are the fans dumb enough to complain about them. I guess if we get rid of the rowdies everybody can sit down the whole game.

and no I'm not a Rowdie.. I was long gone before that came around.

Our fans are amazingly dumb.

Most of the Rowdies hate probably stems from the fact that they aren't the "cool kids". Maybe if the "cool kids" would make some 17ing noise, nobody would be complaining.

I know that the new guy SUCKS and the player intro is pitiful. Hank Flick should have been kept for basketball.

around the country and pay attention to these guy's Student Sections and you will quickly realize that our Student Section is awful. I realize that we did not play the #2 team in the country yesterday like KSU did but that atmosphere in Manhattan was unbelievable. While splitting the student section may not have been the smartest thing to do, I think that is just a pretty convenient excuse to justify the noticeable lack of atmosphere in the Hump now. When I was in school 98-03, the Hump was an extraordinary venue to watch games in. Somehow we have gotten away from that. The student section has to be the driving force to a great atmosphere, and ours for whatever reason has become really complacent.

However, the university could do something to boost the Rowdies. Allow students who participate in the Rowdies to collect Bulldog Club points for future use as an alumnus. You could also apply this to all student tickets. Have students get ticket packages for the sports they choose. Their attendance boosts their point total. The more involved you are as a student, the further ahead you are once you graduate. This also gets students in the habit of attending games which hopefully would continue after graduation.

for the first time this year and was terribly disappointed.

The only people making any noise were the rowdies, what few there are. The rest of the student section looked like they were still asleep. But its not only the student sections, it is the entire place. If you watch the KState/KU game last night, several times they flashed to the older fans and they were up cheering as well.

About the only time I remember the fogies cheering was when they wanted Benock to shoot 3's and the subsequent "OHHH's" when he missed.

The place is not intimidating at all. It was actually pretty boring yesterday other than the team at least winning.

things got during the last few minutes of the UGA game, I'm going to go with lackluster opponent and gameplay yesterday. Doesn't help that neither students nor alums are using more than 3/4 of their seats, though. We had several students homesteading in our section....their way of protesting the reseating, I suppose.

Dittos to everything Redbird4State posted. The student seating is fine. I believe that the Hump will be plenty loud when we play Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. It sure got loud during the last few minutes of the Georgia game. And as a long-time season ticket holder to both football and basketball, I say DO NOT let Hank Flick anywhere near a microphone for any athletic contest.

is because 1) our fans have become apathetic and 2) our team is boring as hell to watch.

Phil Turner is the only player that ever seems to get fired up to play basketball. Why should the fans? I'm not saying they don't actually care, but they sure as hell don't look the part. They look like they are just going through the motions.

Plus, I think everyone is tired of investing themselves emotionally when they know it's very likely we end the season in a disappointing fashion.

Our fans don't suck, they are just worn out.

and it was my first game in a few years, and that is the first thing I said to the person next to me....."what happened to all the crowd noise?" it was pathetic, and it was a very good game at the end.....I have sinced noticed it watching games on tv.......the hump has lost its intimidation...

They had a pretty good thing going on while I was there but it got to where it was this exclusive club that if you missed a game you were out of it or some other ridiculous stipulations. As bad as you are bashing the "cool kids" it was the Rowdies themselves that had the issue and now you see the results.

Rhodes, Jamont, LROB, Austin, Vincent, Frazier, Powers.... all these guys showed so much emotion that it was contagious... Stewart, Swat... are just more reserved. I think that has something to do with it as well... Although the changes have definitely hurt it.

I agree 100%. The excitement starts on the floor not in the stands. It's contagious. I agree that Turner seems to be the only player that seems to enjoy the game with Varnado showing some enthusiasm occasionally. Not sure what the problem is, maybe its the pressure the Sixpack is putting on them to make the sweet 16.......

BTW, did anybody notice that Reik was forced to sit on the floor because there wasn't enough seats on the side court. When a player came off the bench to enter the game, Reik jumped up and grabbed the chair. I guess LT's budget was too tight for one more chair.
